What is Vaginitis????

I was just wondering what kinds there were. Is there any that can make your lower back hurt and your sides like your ovaries area hurt? What is the cause for it? Is it an STD? Pretty much any info is great...

I also just got an IUD.. Could that have anything to do with it. I have the Mirena.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common type of vaginitis. It is caused by an overgrowth of one of several organisms (bacteria) that are normally present in the vagina. Other common types of vaginitis include:

Yeast infection (genital candidiasis). Caused by an overabundance of Candida, a microscopic fungus that normally inhabits the vagina.
Trichomoniasis. Caused by a parasite in the vagina, typically the Trichomonas vaginalis.

Anything ending in "itis" means swelling. Literal term is swollen vagina. Any problems or discomfort you have, you need to see a doc.

You don't say how long it has been since you got the IUD, but there is a small change of getting a PID from an IUD. You may have discomfort for a couple days after insertion of an IUD, but if it continues longer then that you should see your doctor.
