Is it a yeast infection or vaginitis, or even a UTI? |
My little sister (who's 15) came to me tonight, and asked me what was wrong with her. She told me that it burned when she peed, that sex was painful and burned inside as well as out, there were little bumps on the inside of her vaginal opening (they had been there for a long time before but seem more prominent now), and it itched so bad down there. When I asked her if there was any white or yellowish discharge, she said no. What should I tell her? Burning sensation with urination can be caused by infectious (including sexually transmitted infections) and noninfectious conditions, but is most commonly due to bacterial infection of the urinary tract affecting the bladder. She will need to see her doctor for an exam and testing to determine what the exact cause may be. If it is a urinary tract infection, her doctor will prescribe antibiotics. In the mean time she needs to drink plenty of fluids including cranberry juice. AZO, which is over the counter, can be taken for up to 2 days for any discomfort she is experiencing. She needs to urinate frequently and completely to empty her bladder each time. Avoid soda, coffee, - anything containing citrus juices or caffeine until the infection has cleared. Avoid any type of feminine products like sprays as they may irritate the urethra. If she is sexually active urinate after every encounter, and make sure you wipe from front to back. Also cleanse the area before sex. She really needs to see a doctor about this. There is nothing to be embarrassed about whatsoever. If not treated, it can lead to more serious complications. she should see a doc. i agree with the nurse above. i would have her discontinue the sexual encounters until she has at least seen a doctor. it might be better for her especially comfort wise. And based on your sister's experience and what u've told here about her symptoms, I suggest she visit a Doctor. |
