Vaginismus, should there be more info for woman about this? |
I have got vaginismus and have had it for about a year before I started getting treated as I wasn't sure what was wrong with me and was embarrased to go to the doctors, does anyone else think this should be talked about more? I am sure it very difficult for you going through this, but I am unsure where you would want it talked about more. It is a condition that I was very much aware of I think through reading women's magazines. Sounds like it should be...Considering I have never heard of it. Vaginismus (the German equivalent of the word Vaginism) is a condition which affects a woman's ability to engage in any form of vaginal penetration, including sexual penetration, insertion of tampons, and the penetration involved in gynecological examinations. This is the result of a conditioned reflex of the pubococcygeus muscle, which is sometimes referred to as the 'PC muscle'. I'd heard of it, I read it in a book of conditions. But I was a weird kid and read books about diseases, LOL. I think it must be pretty rare. Surely women who aren't suffering from it don't need information? But I agree women do need to know it's a condition. Yep. I've written to Oprah several times... seems her show would be a good vehicle to get this condition some exposure. The number of times they've discussed women's sexual health and come so close... |
