Vaginismus Gynecologist?

Does anyone know of any gyn's in the metro DC area that are knowledgeable about vaginismus? If so, please post there info. Thank you

I don't live in DC, but please take my answer. Try to find a doctor that does pediatric as well as adult gynecology. *Tell your doctor about what you've been experiencing*, and they can suggest some remedies, like dilators. Your doctor will examine your breasts, abdomen, genitals, and swab your cervix. The actual examining process takes about 10 minutes, not very long at all, so don't be anxious. Whatever happens, don't let anyone dismiss your problem or ridicule you. It is not all in your head.

I don't currently know any gynecologists that specialize in vaginismus, but if you go to http://www.acog.com you can search for gynecologists in your area. Sometimes there are even links to some gynecologists websites where you can check out what they are about.

I would recommend calling the ones you're interested in and asking if they have experience with vaginismus patients. They may also have an email listed.

A good way to know if they are experienced is that they will suggest scheduling more time than normal for your exam (they will know that vaginismus sufferers will need to relax and take it slow--maybe up to 1 hour for some women).
