What has helped you while trying to battle VAGINAL INFECTIONS?

What helps besides antibiotics for recurrent vaginal infections?

Depends on what kind of infections. There are so many different kinds, and the cures or aids are going to be different for each one.

yogurt or lactinex. Both have healthy bacteria in them to help prevent infections.

my gynecologist.

definitely not doctors! the antibiotics are it.....a lot of people will give you a whole slew of things to do to avoid or prevent them and those things may help. However i think some women are just prone to getting them because no matter what they do they still get them at least once and a while.

You need to see a gyn dr. and get diagnosed. It usually only takes a 7 day period of putting med in at night. It is not caused by sex usually just an infection or irritation. Too tight jeans or seating in a wet bathing suit can also cause this problem.

Good luck.

One important point first--antibiotics can CAUSE yeast infections, not cure them.

Are you mixing up antibiotics with the pill called Diflucan, which is for treating a yeast infection?

Here are some things I know:

a) Yogurt. But pick the low-sugar or low-carb kind. Why? B/c...
b)...avoiding sugar and starch helps b/c these yeast growth thrives when you ingest a lot of sugary, starchy food.
c) Wear cotton underwear and avoid nylons (pantyhose) if possible, at least for a short time. The point is to keep it dry and "breathable" down there.
d) Lactobacillus pills as an alternative or supplement to the yogurt
e) Do NOT douche. This can cause, and worsen, yeast infections
f) Wash with oatmeal soap or body wash. It helps with itchiness
g)Hydrocortisone or Solarcaine with aloe spray really helps with itchiness
h) Much of these infections can be related to hormones or blood sugar. Check with a doctor to see how this may be able to be regulated.

I'm a nurse. Taking it easy is best. Try to pamper yourself during this time, it helps. Something warm to drink and a book is OK too. Make sure you finish all the medication provided. After wards if you are still feeling sick call the doctor and let him know. Take care.

For treatment, I suggest tea tree oil suppositories found at your local health food store. Alternatively, you can try wrapping garlic (cut off the rough end) in sterilized gauze and inserting it into your vagina overnight. I've had better luck with the suppositories, but some people find the tea tree is too strong. Both garlic and tea tree oil have natural antibacterial qualities.
If the infections are recurrent, you may want to look at your diet to see what imbalance is causing them. My chronic infections stopped after I removed simple sugars and caffeine from my diet.

yogurt!!!!

Believe this, some infections can hide in your partner and reinfect you. Its not V.D. You both might need to get biotics together. Been there, and done it.

yogart

yogurt... half a teaspoon of the plain kind inside your vagina every 2-3 days your not on your period, 5-10 minutes before you take a shower, and eat as much flavoured kinds as you like :)
