Has anyone ever been prescribed boric acid capsules to cure vaginal yeast infections?

Have you used the capsules for a cure of recurring vaginal yeast infections? If so did it work and are there any side effects ? Also, any info on how men get treated for yeast infections or what otc medicine they can take to be sure they aren't passing it back to you?

I haven't tried boric acid, but garlic works well. So does the yogurt thing, except get a "good" yogurt with lots of live cultures and no sugar. You can also eat lots of yogurt or take acidophilus, and that will help.

I will tell you the only thing that ever worked for me when I had a nasty yeast infection when I was pregnant. I did not want to use any chemicals, especially since I was pregnant. I filled an empty tampon applicator with plain yogurt and shot it "up there". Sounds weird, but it worked within 24 hours. My gyno told me that I could do it without any harm to my body or my baby. It worked and it was the only thing that worked, Diflucan didn't even work for me and plain old yogurt did the trick. Men can take diflucan...I passed the infection on to my husband and it did work for him.

Vaginal thrush infections are usually caused by a yeast called Candida albicans. However some infections are caused by Candida glabrata, especially in people whose immune systems are not working properly.

Boric acid is an old fashioned treatment for vaginal yeast infections. The usual treatment for vaginal yeasts are imidiazole drugs such as Canesten or Difflucan, but these often don't work for C. glabrata, so some gynaecologists are going back to the old treatment.

Boric acid is poisonous if swallowed, and can cause local irritation to the vagina. It is NOT safe to use in pregnancy.

Uncircumcised men often get yeast infections under the foreskin. Most antifungal creams will usually work. There are different opinions on whether thrush can be passed between partners. There's not a lot of evidence that treating the partner makes much difference to women who get recurring thrush, but it's possibly worth a try.
