Could it be vaginal cancer?

My mother is 72 and has been ill with shingles for the last few weeks.

Today she had an episode of vaginal bleeding, quite out of the blue and with no pain or anything.

She has also complained about vaginal itching in the past but her doctor dismissed this and said it wasn't anything to worry about.

I am so worried as after googling these symptoms it seems that in an elderly patient they are symptomatic of vaginal cancer. She is seeing the doctor tommorrow. I can't stop worrying. Is there any chance it could be something simple? I am praying it is.

She hasn't had a hysterectomy.

Vaginal cancer is very rare, you say she has no pain so I doubt it would be that. Vaginal cancer symptoms also include painful urination/constipation and pain in the pelvic area. An itch can be a symptom but you mention this happened in the past and not recently, the itch wouldn't just go away. There are unfortunately, other cancers that have similar symptoms for example ovarian cancer and the bleeding generally happens in later stages but do not worry! It could be nothing. The main thing to do is stay calm and be as supportive to your mum as you can be, the doctor will be able to run tests and tell you what is wrong with her and other possible illnesses, just remain positive until you need to worry yourself.

I wish you and your mum the best of luck x

aw im sorry
i cant answer your question
but lets just hope its not =[
hopefully she gets well soon and its just something simple

at her age, it is probably just dry vaginal tissues, vaginal cancer is extremely rare because the mucous membranes are fully replaced by the body so often. Now, if she still has her cervix, that is another issue. I think I'd ask for a referral to a gynecologist for her, he can examine her and tell you more.

shingles can do nasty things to people so it could be to do with that. the doctor should be able to find out thou - it could be a number of things. just wait til the doctor and see what they say. dont worry.

in my exp it would indicate a hormonal alteration of some kind.
worst case scenario it would be more likely to be 'endometrial cancer'(lining of the womb).
HOWEVER she has had shingles and this takes FOREVER to go in the elderly and could maybe be a reaction to any meds she has taken.
one word of warning about 'cancer' and 'google' my hubby was diag with cancer when our son was just one.we were left at the mercy of waiting for all kinds of results for about 3 weeks.during which time i went the library and googled myself into absolute despair.
hes still here thank god but i turned into a bloody nutter.
best of luck (she couldn't have scratched herself with the intense itching caused by shingles?)
