How to distinguish period and vaginal bleeding?

i know that cervical cancer will have vaginal bleeding, but both period and vaginal bleeding have red discharge. how do i differentiate them?

A period is simply vaginal bleeding so it's hard to tell!

Most women can tell because they are used to how long their period goes for, what else they feel like cramps, when it's due and the amount of blood.

Usually bleeding from other causes will either be much heavier, or not as heavy. The best way to tell if something is wrong is to keep a record of your periods, see your doctor if you have any concerns, and get pap smears regularly! (In the case of cervical caner if it's detected early, usually before symptoms come, then it can be treated easily and effectively. Plus there is now a vaccination out that combats most forms of the virus causing cervical cancer so I suggest you look into that.)
