What are the chances?

My Mother was dianosed in May with Squamos Cell Carcinoma Vulvar Cancer. She had surgery where they removed most of the left side of her Vulvar, plus some lymph nodes out of her left thigh.

Yesterday, she told me she found another spot in the same area, just above where they operated. The Dr. who did the surgery said she was 98% cured.

What are the chances this could be the same thing?...I do realize there is a 2% chance, but is there a possibilty this something else like scar tissue or something?

For those who dont know what this is...

It is a form of skin cancer that was in her Vaginal area. Mom had a historectomy 26 yrs ago, so there is no chance of Uteran or Fallopian Cancer, but if it gets into the blood stream, it could become other types of Cancer.....like Bladder or Rectal.

We have an appt with her Dr. on Thurs, but I am just curious...

it is so complex to say how much is the chance,
nobody can guarantee the cure
the cancer could appear locally in the same place or in distant area which called metastases
and the treatment is very complex . surgery , chemical , hormonal ....
it depends on the stage of the cancer and how much it spread locally and to lymph nodes
the best thing to avoid the developed and dangerous stages of all cancers is Periodically check every 6 months specially for whom classified in risk groups

im sure it is nothing.....not that that is an educated diagnosis but it is typical of us to assume the worst.....try not to worry too much about it......im sure the doc will give you an informed decision on thursday...all the best ill cross my fingers and toes for you

I don't know the chances, but I wanted to say good luck to you and your mom. I've had 5 cervical biopsies and I know it's a scary thing to have to wonder and wait.

She needs to return to the doctor for a check up. Cancer is nothing to sit and wonder about. And even with a 98% cure rate that leaves 2% who are not cured.

Even after having a hysterectomy you can still get female cancers of that area.

Have her go, better to be overly cautious than to linger to long wondering and it get to a point there is nothing they can do to help.
