Why get the chicken pox vaccination?

I understand most vaccinations. But to avoid the chicken pox? Why?

Researchers say children getting the pox is a GOOD thing, as their bodies/immune system are learning how to fight. If you don't give them something to fight, how will it strengthen?

They also say, it is actually dangerous to get the vaccination because it will wear off when they are adults, making them susceptible to the pox ..... which can be deadly to adults.

Yes, some families have a bad history of the pox, in which case I understand if you want to avoid it.

But other than that, come on guys .... the chicken pox is no big deal. We, as humans, have been getting it for ages. Don't fall for it. They are not "omg, so dangerous!". In fact, more people have died from the vaccination than the acual chicken pox.

So, WHY get the vacc????

I totally agree, I think it's completely unnecessary. I personally believe that overreactions like this is the reason so many kids today have serious allergies (like those to peanuts). Kids are supposed to get sick once in a while, how else are they supposed to build up their immune systems? Also, the chicken pox is related to a form of herpes virus and recently it's been theorized that since so many people carry forms of herpes viruses, that's what's been preventing us from having an outbreak of the plague.

why get it, well even though the chicken pox's is something most of had as kids it was not enjoyable. Some suffer from it terrible and scaring can occurs with the scratching. So why put your little ones in that when you can get the vaccination.

You obviously don't know that much about the virus. I'm not sure what researchers you are referring to - I have yet to read any real research from real scientists that say the vaccine is harmful or that getting chicken pox is good - so...

The chicken pox virus is a serious pathogen. Most people contract the virus, get the symptoms and live through the experience. Some don't. Some children have to live with awful scarring for the rest of their lives from the pustules - and not just on their skin - some get scarring of their lungs and heart tissue which creates serious health problems for the rest of their lives. Some children die from the disease, too. So it's not as harmless as you think. And the severity of reactions to the virus is individual - it doesn't run in families - so there is no way to predict how seriously a child will be affected just based on family history.

There are also the risks associated with contracting the disease as an adult - adult chicken pox is very serious and can often result in needing to be hospitalized. For women contracting the disease during pregnancy almost always means a loss of the pregnancy and serious health risks for the mother.

Once a person is infected with the chicken pox virus they are at risk for developing shingles later in life. With shingles the virus comes out of dormancy in the body and starts to attack the body along nerve pathways and is incredibly painful and can also lead to the contraction of the disease by anyone who hasn't been vaccinated or had the virus in the past.

The human immune system does not need the chicken pox virus to learn how to fight. Any virus or other pathogen will stimulate the immune system - like the rhinovirus (common cold) or any of the other less serious childhood illnesses that kids come in contact with. What really makes a difference in how well the immune system reacts to pathogens is the appropriate use of antibiotics. Overuse of these medicines can result in a weakened immune system - so instead of railing against the chicken pox vaccine try picking an issue that really does have a deleterious affect on the general population's health.

If you can post or send me the research that you are referring to I'd be really interested in reading it.
