HPV vaccination?

Does anyone knows how much costs the new HPV vaccination? (I mean the one for women till the age 26) Is it possible to get immunized in pregnancy?

The HPV vaccine is $120 per dose for three doses. A physician's office may charge for an office call and for the routine administration of the vaccine in addition to the $120. Since this vaccination is not required for school-age children yet, county health departments do not offer it free of charge.

Since Gardasil (the HPV vaccination) was only approved in 2006, little is known about any long-term side effects the vaccination may have. However, Merck (the manufacturer) states this vaccination should not be given to pregnant women.

HPV protects you from Types 6, 11, 16, and 18. These Types cause MOST cervical cancers and MOST genital warts. This means you are not 100% protected against cervical cancer and genital warts.

As a healthcare educator (teaching assistant), I have spoken to nurses and physicians. Every healthcare practitioner I have spoken to recommends Gardasil for women under age 26.

Read more about Gardasil at http://www.cdc.gov/std/hpv/STDFact-HPV-v...

Not during pregnancy. But I think that every woman should get it.
