hellow all! can anybody tell me that if a lady is contraindicated for tetnus vaccination, what are the alternatives n option awailabe to her in pregnancy The tetanus vaccine is a toxoid or a chemically similar but severely weakened form of the toxin that is produced by the bacteria that cause tetanus, Clostridium Tetani. I am not aware of any contraindications for pregnant women with respect to the tetanus vaccine. Live virus vaccines like the MMR, Varicella, and live polio are contraindicated as they can cause intraunterine infection. The only alternative is to get tetanus immune globulin (anti-toxin antibodies) in the event that you have a tetanus exposure, like stepping on the proverbial rusty nail. |
