I am 29 and can i inject chicken pox vaccination from nhs?

hi everyone. I share house with my landlord and her 6year old boy got chicken pox, but i've never had that before. I really don't want to be infected coz i got to travel 2 weeks later. Shall i ask my doctor to inject the vaccination for me? Will they do? Because i saw they inject vaccination for pregnant woman only....

I think it is very unlikely that the GP will offer you this injection. Apart from the fact that it is reserved for at risk groups, it is also probably to late. The injection is only effective if you have it within 4 days of coming into contact with the virus. The incubation period of the virus is 10-20 days.

The 6 year old was infected 10-20 days ago, and you may have also been infected at this time. Further bad news is that if you do get chickenpox and you are flying, you will not be allowed to do so during the infectious phase.

Good luck and I hope you don't get it.

I didnt know they did them
its worth asking your doctor though.

i think its more rare in adults

probably---or why don't you just get chickenpox? once you've had it, you can't have it again...i've had it!

i dont think is a vaccination 4 chickenpox, but beware as its worse 4 adults than children

If the child has already developed the 'pox, and you have been in close contact...then it is already too late, because you will be infected by now.
When my kids had it, my husband (whose daft mum thought her son should be kept away from all infectious kids, instead of deliberately getting the diseases over and done with...grr) got it really badly - hallucinating, very high temp the lot. So make sure your travel insurance is up to date, as you may not be able to travel (or come back) if you have the blisters (anywhere that can be seen anyway!!)
Try taking echinacea and vitamin c to boost your immune system, you never know, it could hold off the infection...
Good luck

Still me. Yes you all are totally right. I've contacted my GP and the vaccination is only available in big hospital and they will only inject if you are pregnant. Furthermore, she said the vaccination would not work if i have already got the virus in my body, crying...

Anyway, thanks you all!
