Anyone who has had the HPV (Human Papiloma Virus) vaccination or any doctors, I need advice...?

See, my quack pediatrition has is in their head that I need THREE injections of the only HPV vaccine currently approved. I've ALREADY had this vaccination. Has anyone ELSE out there had this vaccination more than ONCE? Everyone I know personally only got it ONCE, and that was it. I REALLY HATE SHOTS. I bet they're doing this to me because I refuse to take blood tests.... I'm due for this SECOND vaccination tomorrow...

jalady, you're LUCKY... and right.... the more we try to prevent these things, the more RESISTANT they'll get.... They'll just keep mutating into more strains....

Some information about cervical cancer.

"The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2007, about 11,150 cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed in the United States."

"About 3,670 women will die from cervical cancer in the United States during 2007. Cervical cancer was once one of the most common causes of cancer death for American women. The cervical cancer death rate declined by 74% between 1955 and 1992."

"The death rate from cervical cancer continues to decline by nearly 4% a year."

"Cervical cancer tends to occur in midlife. Half of women diagnosed with this cancer are between the ages of 35 and 55. It rarely occurs in women younger than 20.[...] Slightly over 20% of women with cervical cancer are diagnosed when they are over 65."

There are over 100 types of HPV, 30 are found to affect the genital region, remember Gardasil protects from 4 types.

NOW
Out of those first numbers.. 3000-4000 women are expected to die in the US from cervical cancer, think about this compared to the US population. It is highly improbable.

Also Gardasil is recommended for use in 9-26yr old,
America Cancer Society statistics show cervical cancer to be common around age 35-55. Yes you could possible contract a strain of cancer causing HPV before 26,.. but what about 26 to say age 50?

And the vaccine has only been tested on a limited group, and since the original test, it has only been 4 yrs, no long time affects are yet known.

To answer your question, you need three shots, and then a booster shot every 4-5 yrs. I hardly think you need a booster shot allready since it is so new..
But then again I dont think this vaccine is necessary.

I'm getting three shots total, and show are/have all of my friends

I did not know they could make you take ...another ridiculous invention...I never ever take that flu shot...if you have an infections you have problems..Do you know how many different kinds of flu are out there.
Are they going to vaccinate us against everything....
MORE FOREIGN STUFF IN OUR BODIES...all with side affects

You do need to get the vaccination 3x--each 2 months apart, I believe. If you only get it once, it won't be effective. We are talking about Gardasil (sp?), correct? I would trust your doc...everything I've heard and read is three times.

And, actually, this vaccination is extremely important for women. It protects against certain strains of HPV, which is the leading cause of cervical cancer. Well worth the slight pain of a shot...=) Good luck!

With the way the immune system works, you need three shots to have immunity from the virus. With only one shot, the virus could still overcome it if you get in contact, then your money would have gone down the drain, and your shot in vain.

Follow what your doctor says. And do your own research so you're confident that you're not being swindled.

Nope three doses is right. Having the vaccination now can prevent many more needles and less pleasant things later on in life. Be brave and don't worry about it so much.

I thought you had to take three doses of the shot...that's what I was told. It's probably one of the best vaccinations you can get as a female...HPV is rampant. IF you hate needles...you'll definately hate the surgery they have to perform "down there" if you contract HPV and end up getting dysplasia. Condoms can't protect you against the disease...so I think you should just take the damned shot!! Haha, it's like that commercial... "one less".
