Can a virgin have cervical cancer?

I am a virgin who was first diagnosed with uterine cancer. After having a hysterectomy I was told I had cervical cancer. When I looked this up on the internet, it appeared to me that cervical cancer is caused by an STD. Are there medical personnel out there who can tell me possible reasons that this happened? I am ashamed to tell anyone what kind of cancer I had and everyone asks.

Hello

I am very sorry to hear that this has happened to you. The majority of cervical cancer is caused or triggered by HPV virus (commonly known as genital warts) it accounts for about 95% of such cases. However, in about 5% of cases it is other factors that cause the cancer, many of which are not understood fully at this time.
You have nothing to feel ashamed of, you have done nothing wrong. Even if you had slept with someone and caught HPV that is nothing to be ashamed of either. If you do not want to tell people - say that you don't want to go into the specifics. But please don't be ashamed or embarrassed.

Good luck.

Yes

i suppose cancer is not pregiduce it can strike anyone anywhere, and cervical cancer does not mean that you can only get if you've had std's>

The most comon cause of cervical cancer is an std known as HPV. however there are other causes, like genetic/hereditary reasons.

the std, hpv is only one cause of cervical cancer, i suppose you can have cancer there and be a virgin, mine was caused by endometriosis. it was undiagnosed for 15 years. dont be ashamed, you did nothing to get it, it just happens, some infants are born with cancer, they sure didnt do anything.

I hope you are well now, life goes on live it to the fullest and care not what they think or how you feel about telling them.

Some strains of a STD can cause cervical cancer, but sometimes you can get cancer due to other reasons. It could be hereditary and such. Here's more info about risk factors that can cause cervical cancer:
