Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Hello! I think I may have PCOS. I am 19, with mild acne that can become inflamed and sore, some facial hair (extended from my actual hair on the side of my face, no Chin or "Moustache" hair) VERY irregular periods (I ve only had 2 this yr) and smaller than usual breasts. I m not obese, but a tad overweight. No abdominal pain or anything like that. Could I have PCOS? I want to get an ultra sound test, but I am incredibly worried that I have some sort of cancer or something terrible. I know I need to have at least a couple of period's a yr to lessen the risk of Uterine cancer, and all of that.
Should I see the doctor? I just dont want to know if I have something way worse that PCOS.
Thanks Everyone!

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is small cyst on your ovaries. Sometimes this can lead to not being able to get pregnant without fertility. A lot of women experience this, the easiest way to diagnose this is with an ultrasound. Your doctor can put you on some medication to help you have periods. I would not be alarmed with having this, but I would go see my Dr. about this since having periods is the bodys way of cleaning your uterus. It is unusual for someone your age to have uterine cancer.

Good luck and God Bless!

It sounds like you may have PCOS, I have it myself.

I was diagnosed at 15 when I had a blood test due to irregular periods. The doctor told me I had hormonal imbalance and booked me in for an ultrasound. And a cyst was discovered.

Then a month later I had another ultrasound and the cyst was gone. I was told there was nothing to worry about if it comes and goes.

There is a problem if the cyst stays permanantly and increases in size when it is better to have it surgically removed although they are known to keep re-occurring.

I also still have irregular periods though not as absent as yours. On average I menstruate every 8 weeks. Although sometimes right on time and sometimes a 10-12 week gap. They used to hurt SO bad but now they're bearable.

The doctor informed me I could take birth control pills for a more regular cycle but I was afraid of the side-effects and chose not to go for it. I wasn't bothered if my periods were sometimes late, as long as nothing was wrong I was fine with the way they were.

But I suggest you go get a blood test pronto and then your doctor can advise you whether you need an ultrasound to check for PCOS or not. You should not be getting just two periods a year. You may require urgent medication to have more regular periods than just two.

definitely sounds like PCOS. Most women will have small cysts on their ovaries even if they don't have PCOS. My doctor did blood tests to check my hormone level which were really out of whack. My doctor said that there is no real test for it but is diagnosed based on symptoms which it sounds like you have all the classics. I recommend you see a reproductive endocrinologist. The sooner you get it treated the better off you are. Just so you know...its also hereditary so you mom or sister could have it. Get checked out, get your cycle regulated. There are medications to help with facial hair like vaniqua cream but I had more success with spironolactone. Metformin and the pill are common treatments and when you are ready to get pregnant, its not impossible, just may need a little help from the doctor. Good luck and do a lot of research.
