I'm an otherwise typically healthy 23 year old woman, happily married with neither of us having any extramarital sex. I started having serious pain last week, and they did all sorts of lab work in the ER, as well as a pelvic exam, ultrasound, and CT scan. Nothing showed anything, except the CT scan, which showed "Something" wrong with my uterus. My follow-up appointment isn't until tomorrow morning, and I'm fairly well freaking out without having any idea what's going on. They ruled out pregnancy (ectopic or otherwise) and my ovaries looked fine. My grandmother had uterine cancer, and my mom died from another type of cancer. She had endometriosis, and my sister has PCOS. I've had two children, and never had problems like this before. No one I know has that I'm aware of. I'm in a lot of pain, mental and physical at this rate.
What kind of problems could be seen on a CT scan and not the ultrasound? It may be used to look for endometrial cancer or to check your endometrial lining but a transvaginal ultrasound can also be used to check for that. Also CT has a limited role in the diagnosis of uterine fibroids. On CT scans, fibroids are usually indistinguishable from healthy myometrium unless they are calcified or necrotic. Calcifications may be more visible on CT scans than on conventional radiographs because of the superior contrast differentiation with CT. Most commonly is Uterine Fibroids. terine fibroids are growths, made up of muscle cells and other tissues that grow within the wall of the uterus.
A CT scan can also show fluid around the uterus.
Have you been diagnosed with PCOS or endometriosis? I have PCOS and a transvaginal ultrasound revealed endometrial hyperplasia and an enlarged endometrial stripe. I go next week to have another ultrasound to check my endometrial stripe because the more it's enlarged the greater of chance it's cancer.
Good luck! Don't worry! When it's something serious they put a rush on your scans and labs and you'll hear back from them sooner. The longer you wait the better your chance that it's nothing serious. I am sorry for your worries:( I had a similar incident a few years back. I also had 2 kids at the time and had never had any problems. Turns out mine was uterine prolapse, which is a fallen uterus. It doesn't show on an ultrasound. Other than that, I couldn't tell you. Just pray about it and hopefully it'll all be fine. |
