Is there a cure for Urticaria?

I've been diagnosed with a skin condition called Urticaria also known as cold Hives. My allergies started when I was 9 years old which was 10 years ago, and It still continues to torture me.

Symptoms: When my skin is exposed to cold temprature i break into hives and not just simple little hives.. it gets as big as a bug bite.. but imagine that ALL OVER! And if exposed to too much cold temprature, it becomes very deadly. Result = Fainting.

Only treatment : Keep warm, wear warm outfits, avoid swimming (Which I love!) And exposure to cold temprature (Which is almost impossible at times)

So if you know any treatment or perhaps a cure, please let me know.

Remedy or possible cure(in some cases).

Regardless of the cause of urticaria, the treatment options are generally successful in controlling the symptoms.

The goal of most medical treatments is to relieve the symptoms, and to hope that the hives go away by themselves.

This is usually accomplished by taking an antihistamine, using a steroid, or by using a cream or lotion that numbs nerve endings.

Unfortunately all of these treatments can have severe side effects, and may not be safe to use long term.

For this reason, many people are interested in a natural treatment. Natural treatments have no dangerous side effects, and for many people, can be a cure for hives.

An effective product called Hivarex may be useful or try needless Acupuncture. It can assist in removing the trigger & reaction in most cases.

Hivarex contains.....
Vitamin C which is required for the formation of connective tissue and plays an important role in maintaining proper immune function central to the treatment of Hives.

Several studies have suggested that Vitamin B12 may help reduce the frequency and severity of hives.

Quercetin which is a bioflavonoid which possesses beneficial antioxidant qualities useful in the treatment of Hives.

Green Tea which is beneficial in the treatment of Hives because it contains the polyphenols epigallocatechin (EGC) and epicatechin gallate (ECG) that have been reported to have an antihistamine effect in vitro tests.

Other remedies previously stated.......

Allergen avoidance:

Prevention and avoidance of known triggers are the mainstay of treatment. This include limiting outdoor exposure, shutting windows, avoiding the drugs that are identified, etc.

Antihistamines:

This class of drugs directly blocks the action of histamine, the major substance responsible for urticaria. It is effective in reducing symptoms such as itchiness (this is the most distressing symptoms for patients with urticaria). Antihistamines include fexofenadine, loratadine and cetirizine.

Steroids:

Steroids has limited use in most patients with acute urticaria. In individuals who have persistent or recurrent attacks of acute urticaria (or associated with angioedema), they may respond to steroid therapy. Steroids should only be used after a trial of maximal dose of antihistamines.

Although no product will work for everyone, Hivarex is one of the better options I have seen. Hivarex is taken orally, and helps the body maintain optimal immune system health.

Also, I would suggest that you join the yahoo discussion group - International Chronic Urticaria Society. This is a place where people from all over the world share advice and tips about having CU.

The moderators are really knowledgeable and you can find out a lot about what you have and how to keep it under control. Some people even find cures (although most don't).

Hope this helps!!!!

Does taking a daily preventative anti-histamine help? I get attacks of urticaria on my hands daily and take piriton so I can only imagine how unconfortable it is all over. My son had an all over attack when he was a baby and needed steroid treatment but that would be a bit much to take every day. Sorry I can't be of much help :o(

I had chronic urticaria for over ten years too. Sounds very much like yours except it was triggered by pressure, heat, cold and vibrations. I found that they could be controlled by claritin and either serevent or advair(asthma meds) but the best news was when I was diagnosed as having celiac disease which is an intolerance to the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley. I went on a gluten free diet and my hives stopped within a month and I have been gluten free, medicine free and hive free for over 5 years now.

You can get tested for celiac disease starting with a blood test and possibly an endoscopy. For the test to be accurate, you need to keep eating gluten. If your doctor isn't open to conducting the testing, look at the www.csaceliacs.org website for your local chapter and contact them and see who they recommend.

Good luck and I know how restricting hives can be and hope this helps. Please contact me if you need help or have more questions.
