Urine tests?

OK, this is kind of a gross question, but I got selected to do a drug test via urine sample for my job (they do random checks and this month, I'm the lucky one haha). Anyways, my HR person told me that I have to go tomorrow - they were late in letting me know and the client is bugging them to have it done - but the thing is that my menstruation cycle has started. Will that affect the test results? It'd be kinda embarrassing bcse I can't flush and the urine will be a weird color...the collector, most likely will be a guy. UGH!

It depends on what the test is angled for. Say, if the test is to find out whether the side effect of the drug e.g. bleeding in the bladder is happening, then finding blood in the urine would cause the result to be a misleading positive.

Otherwise, the menstrual blood would be of no significance.

To reduce the "colouring", wash yourself thoroughly, pass a little urine first, then collect the specimen. Whether the colour is "weird" or not, there would be abnormal amount of blood cells under the the microscope. You should alert the collector in writing. That way, you won't be embarrassed with the need to talk to him/tell him verbally.

Tell your supervisor simply that you have your period and, although you have nothing to hide in a "normal" urine test, that this might be uncomfortable for everyone involved. Ask nicely to do it after your cycle ends and I'm sure that they will understand. If they don't, just grit your teeth, hold your head up and do it! Good luck!

No. Just tell them to mind the discoloration because you're on your cycle right now. If they have a problem with it, then they really need to get over it.

They're testing for drugs, not blood in your urine.

Wear a tampon instead of a pad, and don't remove it when you provide the sample. This will prevent the urine from looking strange (there wont be blood in the sample). The test results wont be any different because of menstruation. They are testing for drugs, not blood. The people at the lab might be able to tell that you're on you period, but the guy collecting the sample won't.
