Do blood/urine tests cover all stds? Would a full papsmear be better?

I've been told the blood/urine samples don't detect everything, so I should get a pap...is this true??

Blood and urine tests detect every STD, except HPV. Swab samples can also be taken on most STDs as well as a physical exam for genital herpes, HPV (genital warts), scabies, pubic lice (crabs), syphillis, and others.

HPV is usually diagnosed by having an abnormal pap smear come back. So, it's a good idea to get a pap smear while you are getting tested, just in case there are any signs of HPV, like abnormal cells on the cervix.

Good luck!

No, some STD need cultivation

yes the pap can detect things that cannot be found in the bloodtest

Yes yes yes. Get both they are both important to cover all bases.

Definitely get a pap, while the blood/urine tests are good for a lot of diseases many have to be found by having a pap exam.

a pap smear detects cancerous or precancerous cervical cells but does not detect std's. most gyn's routinely test for gonorrhea and chlamydia the two most common std's but you have to ask for other tests. talk to your dr and be honest about your sexual history and they will do the tests that best suit your needs

in order to check for STDs, a blood sample can be obtained (in cases of HIV, syphillis, Hepa B, Hepa C just to name a few). depending on your symptoms, a simple blood or urine sample (which can be sent to the lab for serological and microbiological analysis) is needed. sometimes, a sample of vaginal discharge is more suitable for diagnosis. a routine pap smear is used to detect cellular abnormalities in the cervix (such as cancer) and does not check for STDs.

Definatley a PAp smear!!!!!!
