My Dr. did 2 blood and urine tests on me this month, and found LOW carbon monoxide levels--what can this mean? |
She said it could be an anomaly, but may be related to stress or depression. Short of sucking on a tailpipe for a spell, what should I know about this? Carbon monoxide is not a routine test, certainly not the type performed in a doctor's office. When it is measured, what is actually measured is the CO bound to hemoglobin (the protein that carries oxygen from your lungs to all the cells in your body.) Your doctor may have performed a CO2 (carbon dioxide) level, but even this test by itself is not diagnostic of much. I would not worry unless you feel bad physically. In which case see a doctor and find out why. Are you sure she didn't say Carbon Dioxide? I would think that since Carbon Monoxide makes you less able to get oxygen from your blood and can cause you to die, low carbon monoxide would be a good thing and probably wouldn't be something they would report from a blood test... don't really know. i would go back, ask the doctor. a professional would have sat u down , explained the results 2 you. no doctor gives u the results of something, leaves it at that! If carbon monoxide (C0) is testing positive in your blood, you are being exposed to CO somewhere. Any exposure should be avoided, so you want to find the source if possible. Buy a Carbon monoxide dectector and check out your furnace, and any other gas appliances in your house, apartment. If these turn up negative, have your car's exhaust checked for leaks. Other possible sources are second hand cigarette smoke, or exposure at the office. Once source is found, have the appliance fixed. |
