Ok, I get frequent Urinary Tract Infections - HELP?

They are not fun. I have been to 2 specialists and my regular Dr. all say nothing wrong here take the antibiotics. I know the hygene rules, have had a hysterectomy, quit drinking pop, have only 3 cups of coffee a day, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and I'm frustrated and tired of recurring infections. I am taking a multi vitamin, cranberry tablets, B complex vitamins. The last straw - my regular Dr insisted I get yet another urinalisis and it came back the same as the others, he said you must be atrophy. I know a lot of you have the same issues, what triggers your attacks. What do you do to avoid them? Please help!

update Dr. suggested and I do:
always wipe front to back and back to further back!
no bubble bath ever
I always shower never bath
*lol not willing to give up sex - but I am willing to pee before and after
I am:
drink 60 oz of water
started cranberry juice
changed laundry detergent
went to dove for showers
I gave up colas and diet dew am clinging to my coffee - if nothing else works will give it up

Has anyone heard of tap water triggering an infection?

Leave the coffee just as a good measure, drink 2-3 litres of water a day (how big's a glass?!), no bubble baths, no synthetic undies (ew. who would anyway?!), ask about taking a prophylactic antibiotic (i.e a low preventative dose every day or after sex), urinate before and after sex, wipe front to back, change tampons/towels vv frequently, no sugary/acidic/fruity drinks, loads of water if you drink alcohol and keep a diary of what you do/drink/eat because that's the only way you'll work out what triggers them. It'll be something to show your specialist too. Also, ask your doctor what he means by 'atrophy' (??). I've seen about 3m specialists (gynae/urol/nephro) and had about 8 or 9 GPs since I've been getting them and noone has said that to me. If something atrophies it means effectively wastes away so 'atrophy' is an instance of that but I don't see how you yourself can "be atrophy". That makes no sense. Good luck.

CRANBERRY JUICE!!!

...and lots of it.

Drinking cranberry juice has always helped me better than the tablets. Try drinking at least 16 oz a day. Make sure you don't take bubble baths and urintate before and after intercourse.

Have you tried no sex? It irritates some women's urethras and can introduce bacteria.

Some people get them from using bubble bath. Personally, I can't use it at all!

Also, it's kind of gross, but make sure you wipe yourself front to back when you pee.

change ur bath soap, wash ur hair first in the shower.... change ur detergent... use only ivory or dove..... used to happen to me.... some people r just prone.,.but that should help..try it..... im a medical assistant...... drink alot of wter and cranberry juice... wipe from the front..towards ur butt.... not from your butt to the front...

Drink more water. Take vitamin C. Go pee immediately after having sex. The cranberry tablets are really good. Also maybe your husband/bf is carrying the bacteria, that happened to my Mom and Dad, they were both put on antibiotics and the problem went away. Good luck.

I know what ur going through I used to get UTIs alot too.
The last time I got one my doctor asked me how long do I hold my pee cuz that maybe my problem that causing the infection and that was it I was holding my pee too long. I havent had a UTI in 2 yrs. So maybe thats what u are doing wrong as soon as u feel like u got to pee then go pee never hold it. My doctor said that is the leading cause of most UTIs in women cuz most women hold there pee too long.

Oh wow, I've been through this my entire life. I just recently had a kidney stone because of the infections and, trust me, it's not something you want to have to go through.

Although the Doctors are telling you you have no infection, there is possibly a problem with a ureter. This was my problem exactly. Basically your ureter could be too small to allow your bladder to empty completely when you use the bathroom. This causes build-up of urine and can cause burning sensations when you urinate. Most of all, it causes you to feel as though you have to keep going, even though you can't.

There is a simple procedure that can fix this problem, so consult a Urologist to have it checked out.

I am not a doctor, but this is what I've experienced.

Cranberry juice is the best thing for it. It's so much better than everything you named. Drink a few glasses daily and always pee before and after sex. You'll really notice a difference.
