Are there any home remedies that cure urinary tract infections? |
iv'e heard that alka seltzer works? does it really cure a urinary tract infection? what can be done to eliminate the bacteria besides antibiotics? is there any way possible would love to know!!! Many sources say the only way to cure an infection is Antibiotics. I have had two UTI's this past year and since I don't have Health Insurance I ended up in the ER to get a prescription for an Antibiotic. After doing a lot of research I've read up from MANY sources that some UTI's if caught early enough CAN be treated without an Antibiotic. It all depends on the type of infection, how bad the infection is and how strong your immune system is. I have felt several more UTI's coming on since I was last treated for those two UTI's. I've taken Cranberry Pills, drank a TON of water and stopped drinking Caffeine and Soda until my symptoms went away. I think the water is the BEST cure. I too read Alka Seltzer can help but didn't find very much information on it. Can't hurt to try. If you catch it right away you might be able to cure it by yourself. If your symptoms don't go away after 3 or 4 days I would then see a DR. We are so quick to take Antibiotics these days, we can at least give our bodies a little time to attempt to fight an infection on their own. Cranberry juice has a natural acid in it that helps fend off bacterial overgrowth, avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages and chocolate. Apple juice will also help, but too much of it can have a laxative effect. Drink plenty of fluids and try to limit your bathroom breaks to at least every two hours, so you build up enough pH balance in your urine to fight bacterial infections. If you experience bleeding, go to your MD, it means your bladder infection will only respond to antibiotics. I don't know about curing a UTI... but there is prevention... like cranberry dietary supplements. Cranberry juice is good to help flush out the infection but it doesn't cure it. You use the juice coincide with the antibiotics. Drinking lots of water helps prevent them a well because the more you urinate the cleaner your urethra stays. You need to be seen by a doctor and put on antibiotics. That is the only thing that will truly get rid of an infection. Cranberry juice is considered a natural antibiotic but there is nothing that is going to help a raging infection except doctor intervention. Always drink plenty of water and if you are prone to these infections and have them frequently, you need to be checked out to make sure that nothing else is going on. It's been shown that cranberry supplements are only effective if they are taken on a regular basis (every day orally). In some cases the body can eliminate the bacteria on it's own, but usually antibiotics are needed. At the first sign of a UTI you should drink a lot of water in one sitting. Most cranberry juices are full of sugar and very little juice. Be sure to get one that is 100% juice and low in sugar. |
