Re: child urinary tract infections...?

Do you know of any natural remedies or supplements you can buy over the counter to help my 5 year old daughter's reoccuring UTI's? Antibiotics do not work anymore, she takes it and two days later infection is back. Very concerned :(

Cranberry juice works wonders. Also if you get it mixed with grape juice helps the taste (I think and so do my daughters). Also, add cranberries to diet (forms can vary).

Patients with recurrent UTIs may need further investigation. This may include ultrasound scans of the kidneys and bladder or intravenous urography (X-rays of the urological system following intravenous injection of iodinated contrast material).
Often long courses of low dose antibiotics are taken at night to help prevent otherwise unexplained cases of recurring cystitis.
If there is no response to treatments, Interstitial cystitis may be a possibility.

The following are a list of things that can be done to avoid a urinary tract infection. As many people, especially women, experience recurrent infections some commonly recommended preventative measures are:

Having adequate fluid intake, especially water.
Not resisting the urge to urinate.
Taking showers, not baths, or urinating soon after taking a bath.
Practising good hygiene, including wiping from the front to the back to avoid contamination of the urinary tract by faecal pathogens.
Cleaning the urethral meatus (the opening of the urethra) after intercourse has been shown to be of some benefit; however, whether this is done with an antiseptic or a placebo ointment (an ointment containing no active ingredient) does not appear to matter.
Cleaning genital areas prior to and after sexual intercourse.
For sexually active women, and to a lesser extent men, urinating within 15 minutes of sexual intercourse to allow the flow of urine to expel the bacteria before specialized extensions anchor the bacteria to the walls of the urethra.
It has been advocated that cranberry juice can decrease the incidence of UTI. A specific type of tannin found only in cranberries and blueberries prevents the adherence of certain pathogens (eg. E. coli) to the epithelium of the urinary bladder

why does she get them ??????? you need to get it taken care of or she will lose her kidneys

Bearberry (also called Uva Ursi) or Cranberry juice..

Urinary tract infection UTI is a common problem in children. They are unable to keep their genitals clean by themselves also.
The female genitalia is more susceptible as the vagina is a hotbed for developing any bacterial fungal infections.

Of course a genital defect as in the case of my daughter where a crevice in the urethra had a tendency to keep some amount of urine caused further aggravation. We went through hell as my kid at 11 months had 45 minutes of convulsions post these infections once.

Some of the best methods which a pediatrician would also recommend to avoid recurrent urinary tract infection.
Fluid intake : Water, any liquids without much fibre would also be good.
Ask her to urinate regularly.
On urinating please ensure that she is cleaned well.
Wiping from the front Vagina to the Anal opening is recommended to avoid contamination the urinary tract by faecal bacteria. Pathogens.
Use a good (quality confirmed ) Aloe Vera Gel.
Rub the gel into as internal part of the urethra as is possible
Cranberry juice has been beneficial in UTI.
There after keep checking the temperature (forehead ) and itching in the genital, burning sensation while urinating to forsee any signs of UTI.

I suggest the all-natural supplement Optiflora. This treats the cause and not just the symptoms unlike the antibiotics. Also the antibiotics cannot distinguish between the good and the bad bacterial - just kills them all and the immune system gets weaker and weaker.

This two-product system uses new technology to protect beneficial microflora during the rigors of shipping, storage, and the acidic journey through your stomach. Other products claim live microflora at the time of manufacture. Optiflora guarantees the delivery of live microflora to your intestines.

This two-product system include Probiotic (Bifidus & Acidophilus...microflora) + Prebiotic (FOS...food source for microflora). Patented guaranteed delivery of 500 million microflora to intestines.

No artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or preservatives.

Safe for all ages - infants to adult

Optiflora is not available OTC but if you would like the website, feel free to contact me.
