Do sexually active women get more urinary tract infections than others? |
i am sexually active, but i always have an infection like most of the time(1 time a month right before my period)i HATE having this.isnt sex supposed to be thrilling experience, well not when i have UTI.what should i do? Yes sexually active women do get more. I was getting UTIs and spoke with my doctor about it. He said that bacteria get into the tract through the movement during sex in that the thrusting etc moves the bacteria into the tract. He recommended that after sex to get up and go an urinate as this will clear any bacteria that may have made its way up. No, as long as you are careful with hygiene you should not be getting that many infections. The biggest single factor is the way you wipe after using the bathroom...wipe front to back ALWAYS...this take the fecal germs away from the vagina and urinary tract. Unfortunately, it is more common in women than men because the uretha is more exposed in women that men. Ecoli is usually the findings in most tests. So after sex, go to the bathroom and urinate. Then clean up. talk with your doctor.....you should not have them so frequently.....drink plenty of water and make sure that your hygiene is perfect....but there may be something else going on....and you really should not continue to be sexually active when you have a UTI....give your body a chance to heal.....good luck I want to add my two-bits too. About 10-15% of the female world population suffer from frequent UTI's. When you are sexually active you get more UTI's due to the sexual intercourse (as was explained by others). There is one way to fight it and that is to take one antibiotic pill every time you have sex. This is the only Just to add to the people above. I used to get severe UTI's all the time just because I am prone to them. I started taking 1,000mg of Vitamin C a day and I stopped having them completely. The vitamin C makes your urine acidic so no bacterial can grow in it. Please try it. It could really help you. Sherry, your first line of defense I would suggest is a Urologist. There are different types of infections in urine while experiancing urine infections. Certain antibiotics work better than others solving the problem. The standard antibiotic is Ciprofloxacin. Occasionally its necessary to run a longer schedule on the drug for a persistent infection. My Urologist took a urine sample before and after the antibiotic run to see if I was cleared. I had three infections in four months. After the third infection the Dr. perscribed a double (20) day run on Cipro. Case closed. Good luck to you and I hope you 're feeling 100% ASAP. |
