I keep getting urinary tract infections. So far, 3 in 2 years. How can I prevent this?

I've been going to the doctor and I get medicine which helps, but then it comes back again and I don't know why. Is there something in my diet I should change? I drink cranberry juice.

I used to have the same problem... I started drinking lots more water. Once that became my habit, I started to notice my lips and eyes felt dry when I don't get enough. I haven't had a urinary tract infection now in years. Occasionally, I still start to feel a little burning and the need to go again almost immediately, so I start drinking lots of water. By the next day, the burning has gone and I'm normal again without antibiotics.

Hope this helps you too.

Sometimes keeping it clean and wearing clean underpants help.

girl 3 times in 2 years....? thats not "i keep getting" thats very normal...i went through a time that i got 1 about once every month or two...i started taking AZO, and that helped a lil. but i found that a few things...like wearing nice clean white cotton panties, washing down there with hypo-allergenic and PH balanced soaps...and lastly when you have sex (thats when i got mine) dont pee till after sex, so that your removing any bacteria still in the urethra...

oh and have the guys your gona sleep with...wash himself before u get together...cause if he is a dirty guy...and you go on a whole date with him before getting it on...well you giving all that time for bacteria to accumulate...

try an herbal remedy....seems like you need a change of diet as well.

Introduction
Urinary tract infections are also known as UTIs, cystitis and bladder infections. They most commonly occur in women, and there are steps you can take to help prevent them, especially if you are prone to them.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
Step One - Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.

Step Two - Add cranberry juice to your diet. Try to drink a glass every day. If you don't like cranberry juice, try another acidic juice such as orange or grapefruit. The juice will help keep your urine acidic.

Step Three - Wear cotton underwear and panty hose with a cotton crotch. Cotton allows air to pass in and out and keeps the crotch area drier, making it a less-inviting place for bacteria to flourish.

Step Four - Wipe from front to back (if you are female), reducing the likelihood that bacteria will spread from your anus into your urinary tract.

Step Five - Use white, unscented toilet paper. Dyes and perfumes can cause inflammation and urinary symptoms in some people.

Step Six - Urinate before and after sexual intercourse.

Step Seven - Avoid bubble baths, bath oils and powders. These can irritate the area and increase the likelihood of infection.

Step Eight - Decrease or eliminate vaginal douching. Avoid vaginal deodorants and perfumed feminine hygiene products, which may contribute to urinary problems.

Step Nine - Take 1,000 to 2,000 mg of vitamin C with bioflavonoids daily. Vitamin C helps acidify the urine, preventing the growth of bacteria.

Step Ten - Use acidophilus, especially if you are on antibiotics, according to package directions. Acidophilus helps restore normal bacterial growth.

Step Eleven - Eat celery, parsley and watermelon. They are natural diuretics, which help flush out your system.

Step Twelve - Use sanitary pads instead of tampons if you are prone to urinary tract infections.

i have same problem/dr can not find reason for it/i take macrodantin daily/i mean every day/cause if i dont the uti comes back/talk to yr dr

Have you had blood work done by an OB? I would limit soda from your diet, drink lots of water and make sure your limiting your caffeine. Best thing is stay up on your annual doctor visits and limit sexual activity to one partner or not at all (unless your married of course!) Good Luck.

Have you been checked for diabetes? Recurring urinary, bladder and yeast infections are a sign of high blood sugars. Get tested (they prick your finger for a drop of blood, after fasting for 10-12 hours, usually when you wake in the morning)
If not, maybe you don't drink enough water, or you eat to many sugary things or (disgusting as it sounds) don't stay clean in that area. (NOT trying to say you aren't, just a suggestion!)

Some people are just susceptible to get them. I used to get them all the time. My doctor told me that heavy lifting can cause it and that was my problem. Also hygiene can contribute. Women should always wipe from front to back. If you are sexually active and your partner has any bacteria on them can cause it too.

drink loads of water

wash your thongs, make your the guys (and objects) you fool around with are clean, and most importantly, clean your va-j-j everyday!

I used to suffer from them alot, but a nurse at the hosptial gave me some tips and I havent had one in years.

Avoid lots of caffiene and sugary drinks.
Drink cranberry juice or you can get the pills at walmart in the vitamin aisle.
Eat yogurt.. it has good bacteria in it that will help your tract.
Don't take too many baths, dirty water= bacteria which can cause and infection.
If you have sexual intercourse make sure you "pee" right after or shortly after and clean yourself well with a baby wipe or damp cloth to get all the bacteria.

There are these pills you can get from any pharmacy. I can't remember the name they are basically cranberry pills they help prevent , along with them you need to drink a good amount of water a day, always be clean and watch what type of underwear you wear keep it cotton !!

If you're young, female and sexually active, urinating after intercourse (or even just clitoral stimulation) can prevent most cases.

Its your diet, chances are to much of one kind of food. Try grapes, lemons, and more water.

Cranberry juice have properties that are known to promote a healthy urinary tract infection but it can also work against you if not taken in moderation. Contrary to popular belief cranberry juice has a high acidic base. You can have up to two 4-6 oz glasses of cranberry juice a day but between this time you need to be drinking up to 6-8 oz glasses of water of day to help flush away acidic properties in the bladder. If you are not making a good practice of drinking plenty of clear fluids to help flush out your kidneys and bladder than you looking for disaster. Even some foods we eat can have properties in them that are not good for us and needs to be flushed out by water such as chocolates. So, visit your doctor, take the antibiotics to clear your uti and drink soda, and high acidity juices like grapefruit juice, orange juice, and cranberry juice in moderation and boost your clear fluid intake such as apple juice, white grape juice, and water. Make sure the clear fluids out weigh the carbonated drinks and high acid beverages. Good luck I know you can beat this thing.
