Cancer question.?

What are the chances of stage 3 Urethral Cancer being cured and it not spreading to anywhere else in the body? Another thing is how does Chemotherapy affect people? If anyone has been through Chemotherapy how did it affect you and how much of the cancer went away? Please only serious answers. I am wanting to know because a love one has got cancer back and i want to know how i can do more for them. I am always there and if they need a shoulder to cry on and need someone to talk to i am there but what else can i do? I want to do more and do as much as i can for them.

I hope someone can help me out.
Thank you in advance.

Chemotherapy affects people differently based on many different factors. Some of my patients sail through it without any problems while others get more nauseated or anxious or other effects. It also has much to do with the chemo agent. Different agents carry different side effects. Discuss these with a nurse who treats patients with chemo.
The other important point on what you can do for them is to support them any way they would like you to. I usually tell my patients to listen to their own bodies more than what many other people tell them. If they are tired--rest. If they have some energy--do more. Eat when you can and if you can't try to treat for nausea. The simple act of not eating can be one form of nausea.

Surgery is the most common treatment for cancer of the urethra. One of the following types of surgery may be done:

Open excision: Removal of the cancer by surgery.
Electro-resection with fulguration: Surgery to remove the cancer by electric current. A lighted tool with a small wire loop on the end is used to remove the cancer or to burn the tumor away with high-energy electricity.
Laser surgery: A surgical procedure that uses a laser beam (a narrow beam of intense light) as a knife to make bloodless cuts in tissue or to remove or destroy tissue.
Lymph node dissection: Lymph nodes in the pelvis and groin may be removed.
Cystourethrectomy: Surgery to remove the bladder and the urethra.
Cystoprostatectomy: Surgery to remove the bladder and the prostate.
Anterior exenteration: Surgery to remove the urethra, the bladder, and the vagina. Plastic surgery may be done to rebuild the vagina.
Partial penectomy: Surgery to remove the part of the penis surrounding the urethra where cancer has spread. Plastic surgery may be done to rebuild the penis.
Radical penectomy: Surgery to remove the entire penis. Plastic surgery may be done to rebuild the penis.
If the urethra is removed, the surgeon will make a new way for the urine to pass from the body. This is called urinary diversion. If the bladder is removed, the surgeon will make a new way for urine to be stored and passed from the body. The surgeon may use part of the small intestine to make a tube that passes urine through an opening (stoma). This is called an ostomy or urostomy. If a patient has an ostomy, a disposable bag to collect urine is worn under clothing. The surgeon may also use part of the small intestine to make a new storage pouch (continent reservoir) inside the body where the urine can collect. A tube (catheter) is then used to drain the urine through a stoma

You may want to split this up into several questions and posts, theres a lot to answer here. As far as what you can do to be there for them, just that, be there. It will make a world of difference. Chemotherapy in general tends to have some universal effects, the ones most people are familiar with hair loss, nausea, dry and sensitive skin, etc. But everyone is unique in how they deal with them, or what is the hardest for them to deal with. Fatigue, sensitivity to smells and tastes, there is so much. If you live in the states call the American Cancer Society, or visit their website, they have huge amounts of information and resources.....
I hope this helps you to find the answers you need....

CANCER: There's a new Swedish study which shows that human breast milk kills cancer. On the news this guy who drank human breast milk (with a prescription) beat cancer. It was discovered by Swedish scientists that human breast milk (spilled into a petri dish) kills cancer. People who drink it have had some success in fighting off cancer.

You need a prescription and it's about $3 an ounce at a breast milk bank, but it works.
