Why dont people research "Natural Medicines"?

I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY ...when people are sick or have a medical problem whether it be a cold or Cancer...they always run to a doctor. Why dont more people consider curing themselves by means of "natural" herbs, vitamins, and eating a healthy organic diet. There are "Natural" cures for just about EVERYTHING!
Please People wake up to the facts! The doctors and drug company's only want your money...Do some research and Cure yourself!

Because our society is based on the idea that anything natural is abnormal. Herbalists in the past have been labelled as witches and burned at the stake. People were taught to go to a "doctor" out of fear of being associated with witches or witchcraft. Doctors and pharmacists have perpetuated this idealogy to line their own pockets. While they haven't said "herbs are witchcraft", they have told us that "taking that stuff doesn't help, you need ____ to get better". And a lot of doctors have a "god complex", to boot.

Personally, my doctor practices holistic medicine treating the whole body, mind and spirit. Her first line of defense is not any pharmacuetical company. She shares her office with a chiropractor, an acupuncturist and a massage therapist. If you're sick, you get referrals to see all of them. Her first "prescriptions" are often herbal remedies and home remedies that don't involve "Western medicine". "Western medicine" is her last line of defense, in most cases. With cancer treatments and such, she prefers to use both "Western medicine" and the holistic approach. :)

I prefer voodoo

because it's easier and quicker. Most people don't have the time to learn and be consistant with alternative therapies. "Natural Medicine" is takes longer to work, (though in the long run is usually better for you) and in this day and age of instant gratification, most want themselves cured now, even if it means using somewhat toxic substances to do it.

People want treatments that have been demonstrated in controlled randomized trials. They don't want handwaving from some quack who is only after their money.

Have you looked at the cost of these products? For every health problem there are hundreds of different products available and all claim to be the best. Most are a scam. All they have to do is take a few herbs, put them in a capsule, and charge a hundred times what they're worth. There is no guarantee any of them work and it costs a small fortune to find out for sure. If each natural health product was properly tested and regulated perhaps more people would try them. For now the only people who benefit from natural herbs and vitamins are the companies who make them. It's a billion dollar industry and they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I do. I use natural medicines instead of chemo for colon cancer. Herbals, no stress and a good attitude is my co-existence with cancer.

Sounds exactly like what the Big Pharmaceutical companies do; except with chemicals synthesized in a lab.

At any rate, we'll never come to an agreement on any of this... it seems as if there are two very definitive mindsets on this board, so much to the extent that the mere act of posting any sort of alternative medicine "propaganda" is enough to earn you enough thumbs down to make your answer disappear from view.

Nothing like a little good old-fashioned censorship and oppression.
