Why is it so vogue to believe that acid reflux is caused by "not enough acid"?

I noticed this gaining momentum with Kevin Trudeau and his assertion that acid reflux or gastro-esophageal reflux is caused by too little acid.

I'm wondering why it is so popular to believe a guy with no medical background and no understanding of the pathophysiology. Why doesn't months and years of real research by scientists prevail over testimonials and flawed reasoning.

People like pop culture, easy answers from people publicized as know-it-alls. To really educate yourself and not follow the crowd like sheep, takes work. Most people believe
what they hear and refuse to get educated!

I thought it was caused by a disagreement with what I eat and the acid in my stomach. Onions, spicy food...

Bottom line: people are stupid. If they're only hurting themselves, I say let them drink a whole bunch of hydroiodic acid. That'd solve the problem pretty quick.

I do not know why it is so vogue since there appears to be no evidence to support Trudeau's assertion.

I haven't heard that one - but he sounds like a total idiot, and is CLEARLY someone who has never experienced the problems himself!

I do not trust Trudeau.
Having two relatives diagnosed with GERD, and cured by just taking a multi enzyme supplement.
None of the usual OTC or prescribed medications helped them at all.
Except of course for the enzymes(which our body already makes but tend to become deficient, noticeably with such ailments).

Trudeau certainly doesn't know what he's talking about but also understand that much of what you may have heard about acid reflux is quite possibly also wrong.

For example, it's not caused by an over production of acid either. Specifically it is a relaxing of the upper smooth muscle tissue of the GI tract which allows the acid to rise in the esophagus. This rise does not happen when the top sphincter is holding things "down" as it is supposed to.

Some things that can actually make this worse is chewing gum and eating mints before and after a meal. Why? Because mint happens to relax the smooth muscle tissues of the upper GI tract. This is great to aid digestion, unless you are dealing with acid reflux, in which case the situation is made worse.

if you do not know something, it will be hard for you to understand.

i saw the same add about Kevin.

i had a problem that called heart burn.it was so bad i had to take tums all day.i go to Doctor he said i am going to give you RX that purple pill. and you have to take it.because you have serious heart burn problem.

i hate medicine.

before i had to take that purple pill i want to try Kevin's theory.

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar , 1teaspoon honey mix with 8 oz water. drink that for 1 weak. and started to take digestive enzymes.

I DO NOT HAVE HEART BURN ANY MORE.

i don't care what you say or think.
IT WORKS FOR ME.

It actually can be caused by to little acid. When someone takes heartburn meds like tums or nexium, they actually are turning off the valves that are secreting to much acid which is causing heartburn. So when a person them regularly their acid levels begin to drop and their body tries to create more acid to compensate for the low levels which makes the problem worse once the medication wears out. So when people get heartburn that "breaks thru" its actually the meds wearing off and so now they have to much acid.
