Does anyone here suffer from agoraphobia?

I have been suffering from it for 30 years and did nothing about it... except learn to live with it.

I did not know what my problem was for the first 20 years. I discovered it by doing some research on the internet. Meantime... 15 years down the track... I developed a side effect from my agoraphobia... which is stress... and in turn... stess can cause depression. All in all... it did stuff up my life in a big way.

Very few people understand agoraphobia... except those who have it. It is not a medical condition... nor a mental condition. Which is why the doctors cannot do anything for you... nor the psychiatrists. There is no medecine to cure it either.

I am now thinking to purchase a set of CDs which is sold on the Internet by various groups... which claim to have the cure. Does anyone of you have purchased those CDs?

This is one of the sites offering CDs

no i dont uffer from agoraphobia;....

Sorry dude, i dont suffer from it, much less know anything about it or the CDs youre talking about.

If i did suffer from it, i'd be out of a job as an attorney.

the cd's are a ripoff. the only thing i can think of that would help you is to talk with other people face to face who suffer from the same infliction. try a support group and share your insecurities with others who have experienced and overcome the same problem.

It actually is a mental condition, as it's in the DSM-IV (which psychologists use to diagnose and assess patients.)

I would recommend that you see a clinical psychologist. With therapy, the clinician will be able to help you make steps into a more normal life- guiding you along the way.
While the condition may not be cured, a psychologist can help you cope and change the behaviors.

As for a psychiatrist, that will not be beneficial because other than medications, very few of them provide actual therapy.

I think CDs will be a waste of money. Agoraphobia is a serious condition, and you need someone with education and experience.

I had agorophobia - I had a comfort zone - I could go to work and to the store but no-where else. I had terrible panic attacks- I couldn't go to Wal_mart or stadiums or auditoriums. I did a program called attacking anxiety. They have CD's and a workbook. The program was started by a woman named Lucinda Bassett. It worked great. As a matter of fact its been many years and I still use the relaxation CD. I believe they have a web-site at www.attackinganxiety.com.

I understand and think it is also about obsessive compulsive behavior. For me, fixating or I should say obsessing on it all the time causes anticipatory anxiety and locks me in this state of being hyper sensitive. It is about facing the fear, finding a power greater than yourself to help, and getting out of self. Open spaces are not the enemy, it is our mind playing tricks on us.

No. The human brain is amazing give yours some credit and learn from it and overcome it. How are you diaganosed with this? you self diagnosed? There must be a support group you can find to help you cope.
