Is getting a suntan, out on a beach somewhere good for your health?

health care people think a complete suntan, exposes the human body to to much ultraviolet rays, and possible skin cancer

not only that, but if you tan a lot your skin will start to turn leathery and look absolutely terrible when you get older.

A suntan is basically the skin's reaction to the injury of low-level radiation. No, it's not healthy.

Laying out in the sun is bad for your skin. Tanning in tanning beds is also bad for your skin. Over-exposure to the sun and sun lamps can put you at risk for skin cancer.

Getting a tan from working out in the yard or swimming, playing an outdoor sport is fine. But to lay in the sun for hours on end is a little risky. No matter what your outdoor activity, even if it's shopping, always be sure to put sunscreen on--and don't forget your face.

Ayurveda, the ancient medicine used by the sages of India, recommends 30 min of sun exposure every day, either in the morning or in the evening; avoiding the sunlight of 11:30 am to 3pm. They say sunlight recharges the body, and helps to stay healthy.

Actually, modern medicine agrees with the Ayurveda. Low to moderate daily sun exposure -- something in the ball park of 30 mins per day, if I recall correctly -- is good for you. It's excessive exposure that causes wrinkles and puts you at increased skin cancer risk.
