Breast Ultrasound/mammogram?

I had my first mammogram and was told I needed additional testing. They did a diagnostic mammogram followed by a ultrasound. The diagnostic mammogram showed a 8mm mass. However the ultrasound showed nothing. Is is possible it was a cyst that ruptured during the diagnostic mammogram? How could there be something there on moment and 5 minutes later it doesnt show up on ultrasound?

It is often that masses don't show up on ultrasound. Mammography compression very seldom ruptures anything in the breast.

Mammograms and ultrasounds are two totally different modalities. Sometimes they complement each other in diagnosis, but sometimes they don't.

I don't know how large your breasts are, but maybe, in scanning, the transducer, or wand, simply missed the mass. 8mm is about half an inch...very small.

If the radiologist or your doctor decide to remove it, it can be localized by mammography.

maybe growing time, or they missed it on the first one, those things are hard to read

They look at different things.
Mammograms are best for looking for calcium deposits, which sometimes suggest cancer (and sometimes not...)
Ultrasounds identify areas of different density, such as cysts, tumors, or normal breast stromal tissue.
If the mammogram showed something concerning and the ultrasound didn't, a biopsy might be the next best test. Ask your doctor what you should do.
