What ultrasound will they do!!??

Well, I'm 17 & my mom scheduled me an appt. to see the Gyn. The reason I'm going is because I haven't had my period in 4 months. (I just moved, so I figured it was all just stress, but I still wanted to make sure.) About 2 yrs. ago I went my 1st time, because I had pain & at the ER they found 2 cysts in a Cat Scan, so it was mandatory for me to go to the Gyn. She said if I ever had pain again I'd get an ultrasound. So, most likely that's what I will get. She never said anything about drinking a lot of water or anything. What ultrasounds will they do? What will they show? Could it show that I WAS bulimiac (not anymore though)? I heard if you get an internal ultrasound you have to put the wand inside your vagina by yourself. Does it hurt? How far do you put it up there, lol. Also, they may not do that though, right? Because, I've never had sex & I don't use tampons. Thanks.

I'm not sure if it would show if you were bulimic, though that could have something to do with your missed periods.
An internal ultrasound is the best way to get a look at you ovaries, though if your hymen is intact they may do an abdominal one.
I've had internal ultrasounds and never had to put the wand in myself. It doesn't really hurt, but it isn't comfortable. You feel some pressure and that's about it.

You drink about a gallon of water and can't go to the bathroom till they are finished. They put a gel on your belly and look at what they find on a monitor. It's painless. Except for the fact you need to go to the bathroom so bad. I've heard about the wand. But, I didn't have to have it done that way. I would ask your doctor about the virginity issue. And, not really wanting it performed in that way. But, if it's important they may have to do it that way.

Ok, firstly an ultra-sound will show how the cysts are growing if any more have developed etc.
The ultra-sound won't show if you have ever had an eating disorder, the ultra-sound would be looking at your ovaries {and around there uterus/cervix/fallopian tubes} not your stomach.

With the internal ultra-sound you can ask them to put the wand in if you would feel more comfortable with that. The will put a condom and lubricant on it {condom so it's clean and lubricant so it's easy to go in} it isn't painful at all.
Also if you put the wand in just put it in about the length of your middle finger.
You may not have an internal scan no.
They might try abdominal and if it doesn't work then they will do an internal!

Good luck and don't worry about it. It's very ok. I had an internal scan when I was pregnant and I was very scared but it really isn't that bad!

i just had one done a couple weeks ago, also to look for cysts. if your a virgin, then they will not do a vaginal ultra sound, just an abdominal one.

as far as the water, you have to completley empty your bladder 2 hours before the appointment, then you have 1 hour to drink 40 ounzes of water ( thats 2 and a half bottles of water), your bladder will be completly full, they may let you pee alittle bit before the ultra sound, hopfully they dont make you wait to long)

they prolly wont do the same kind of Ultrasound that you would get while pregnant..they are going to use the wand and NO you dont do it yourself and no it doesnt hurt just a little uncomfy.....you shouldnt need to drink any water either.....it shouldnt show that you were bulimiac

dont worry, most likely they will do a pelvic ultrasound. yes, its the one with the long stick in your vagina. i have had many of them done before and no they do not hurt. its probaubly about a foot long, and yes it looks scary but i proise it is not! also, they lube it up first so your not going to be in any discomfort. oh, and you will be able to see everything on a screen thats inside of you and thats pretty cool. but once again, i promise it does not hurt!

If you are a virgin they will not do an internal ultrasound. They will probably schedule you for one once you go in and you will have to drink 32 oz of water. they will not be able to tell if you were bulimic.
