Mammogram & ultrasound negative results?

I had a mammogram showing a 5 mm nodule on my breast. An ultrasound was normal with no mass observed. Why would the ultrasound not show the nodule? Also, I had an MRI and am waiting for results. How would a biopsy done without the nodule showing up on ultrasound? The lump cannot be felt by exam.

Depending on they type of nodule (if it's solid or fluid filled) will be how it is found....there are many different types of nodules and that is why your Dr is doing the different test, good for him/her that he/she is following up with multiple exams....and for the biopsy part they can do that different ways also, if it can't be found with an ultrasound they can do what they call a needle loc (use mammo equipment to place a thin wire through the breast to the nodule so the surgeon knows where to find it) and take you to surgery to remove the nodule, again depending on what type of nodule and where it is located in the breast they could do a sterotactic percutaneous breast biopsy (SPBB), using a mammography type machine they put a needle in to the nodule and surrounding area and take a sample.

For right now just wait for the MRI results, see what they say, and go from there...just make sure that you are asking LOTS of questions and understand all your options!!

Best of luck!

It's probably just normal breast tissue then. Or someone did their job wrong.

could be soft tussie that moves about the mri might show something of what it is best luck
