Gallbladder Ultrasound was ok, Gallbladder function was not ok?

Ive had 2 ultrasounds done on my gallbladder and they say its fine, but i had a Hida scan done which is a test to check the function of the gallbladder and the doc told me it at only 8% function what does this mean, wouldnt it show on the ultrasound if this organ is damaged? i also had all my blood checked for liver, pancreas, kidneys, and more and all came out negative meaning good. could the gallbladder just done function right for no reason?

thanks guys, hey lore they did do that test which is called a heida scan with the dye on your vains, and thats what showed its only working at 8% so this means its got to comeout my doc told me .. are you living well without it? what are the after effects of no gallbladder?

I ha my gallbladder removed in 1982. Nothing showed up on my ultra sound either .They put some dye through to the gallbladder and found I didn't have stones but my gallbladder was deceased .and non functinal. So it was removed
ask your dr. about having the dye put through it is put in through the arm .They should see just what is happening with your gallbladder. Good luck .

Hello:

When they do ultrasounds of the gallbladder they are generally looking for gallstones which is proof that there is a problem. When the gallbladder looks normal but the doctor still suspects a problem then they will do the scan for function. If your gallbladder is only functioning 8% then I would say there is a problem and if you aren't bothered by it yet, ie. gallbladder attacks, then you will likely have problems eventually.

And yes, the gallbladder can stop functioning correctly at any time. You can live without a gallbladder without any major problems. The gallbladder is just a storage site for bile that is made in the liver. When you eat the gallbladder releases the bile for digestion.

most doctors don't tell a patient who is having some sort of gallbladder issue that it can mean that the liver is the culprit.
many of us who found out had liver disease of some sort always had gallbladder issues as our original complaint.

most doctors are unaware of the alt connection in a standard blood lab when it comes to diseases of the liver. the alt and ast levels sometimes do not show an increase, which leads the doctor to think everything is okay with the liver. but we still have symptoms.

fatty liver (nash), alcoholic liver as well as autoimmune hepatitis, viral infections such as HBV (dna virus) or HCV (rna virus) can be the culprits.

it's always best to test for antibodies for hbv or hcv instead of using the poor reliability of alt and ast markers.

most doctors think that if a patient doesn't have the more common risk factors for hbv or hcv that they are under the wrong impression as everyone has one risk factor for the infectious disease which infects the liver (and can affect all other organs eventually).

your best bet is lab specific testing.
