Abdominal ultrasound and fasting? |
I'm having an abdominal ultrasound to look at my gallbladder at 10:30am tomorrow and a pelvic ultrasound at 12. how long do i need to fast? In our facility, for a AM appointment for a Abd u/s, we ask the patient to be NPO (nothing by mouth) from midnight the night before. For a PM appt, we ask a patient is NPO for 6 hours. Certain foods, especially fatty foods, cause the gallbladder to contract and release bile. You are not able to see a contracted gallbladder on u/s. You don't. That's probably why they did not tell you to. i had one and i never had to fast but was told to drink plenty of water and mine was for my gallbladder good luck |
