Gallbladder ultrasound? |
Has anyone had one? What's the difference between this test and the test where they inject die and watch it? I am having one tomorrow, then surgery afterward if the ultrasound shows bad. I am wondering why no fatty food tonight. I know that causes the gallbladder to spasm, but they said i could eat dinner, but no food after 12:00. DO you know anything about this ultrasound? An ultrasound is definitely less painful that injecting the die and they get an accurate picture of how inflamed and if there are many gallstones there. I had one in 2004 and then had to have my gallbladder taken out. It is scary but not a big deal if they can do it laprascopically with smaller incisions and all. I don't know enough to tell you why they don't want you to eat, but I did have an ultrasound done for it. I think they do that because they can SEE of there are stones. wife had this done. no problems at all. follow doctor directions.she had to have her gallbladder out. quick and easy OP. four small incisions and it was done. good luck. There's nothing to worry about...an ultrasound test consists of rubbing a small camera over your skin to get a picture of your gallbladder. I had gallbladder surgery and it was four small incisions, no long cutting, and it's more like a procedure than major surgery to me. They inject an anesthia in your arm and one minute you're talking to the doctors and it seems like the next and you find yourself saying, "When are you going to start?" and it's all over. In order to image the gb with ultrasound, it must have bile in it. The gb's function is to secrete bile to help break down fatty foods. If you eat fatty foods, the gb will not be full and therefore hard to see. I would also recommend you avoid any gassy drinks/food, especially soda. Air (which is in the bowel within the abdomen) contains gas. U/s cannot see through air. That is the reason we use a gel between your skin and the transducer (camera)...we need an air free contact to get images. No food after midnight is to help reduce the air in your bowel. The best time to image the abdomen cavity is in the morning. In fact, the earlier the better. We all get more gassy as the day progresses. The contrast test with the dye is a nuclear medicine study. It evaluates function. An u/s will diagnose pathology, for example a stone or polyp in the gb. An u/s of the gb is one of the easiest tests you will ever have.....painless, quick, non-invasive. You will be fine! |
