Breast ultrasound?

i have to go for a breast ultrasound today to figure out what exactly the lumps in my breast are. Just wondering if anyone has had one and if you need to stop eating and drinking before hand or anything like that? the doctor didn't mention anything, but just wondering if they might have forgotten to tell me? also have you had one? what happens exactly? do you get a female to do the ultrasound for you? i don't think i would be comfortable with a male at all!!!!

Don't worry - they would tell you if you have to prepare for the test in any way. You might get a male but they are professionals.

I recommend that you abstain from any stimulants such as chocolate, caffeine products and any intercourse or foreplay that may stimulate the breasts for at least several days prior to the ultrasound, but if the cysts or lumps have been persistent then go ahead and get it done.

You dont have to stop eating and drinking before that. All you have to do is only wearing a two-piece outfit so that it is easy to undress above the waist. It will be a little hurt if you do it right before your period because the doctor might has to press hard the transducer against your breast.

I dont know sorry

nah...you can eat or drink anything you want before hand. what you consume will not change the lump in anyway. I had one, and I had a female nurse do it, but if it was male, its not too bad...they spend most of the time looking at the computer screen rather than your breast. good luck with everything!

It can be kind of scary, but the nurse tries to make you as comfortable as possible. You don't have to stop eating or drinking, but i would recommend staying away from caffine, it may cause the lumps to swell. Basically, you go into the room, put on a gown-backwards-and lay on the table. You'll start by putting your arm up above your head. She (maybe he, but not likely) will use a gel, they say they warm it, sometimes it's still cold and sometimes it's too hot. There may be a little pain depending on how sensitive the area is. The procedure doesn't take very long, and if they have a radiologist on site, they'll be able to give you your results before you leave. Depending on your age, these "lumps" could be quite normal.

If you have any questions or comments don't be afraid to ask the nurse, that's what they are there for!

Hope eveything turns out well!

A breast US does not require any special prep. I am a mammography tech and have had a breast US. Yes, the tech is female. There are a few male US techs and if you are uncomfortable just request a female.
