Would an ULTRASOUND examination detect UTI and/or STD?

The results of the ultrasound is negative for gall stones, but the doctor told my relative that she has a UTI (urinary tract infection) and STD (sexually transmitted disease). Can an ultrasound detect presence of UTI and/or STD? Please this is an emergency

Here are some examples of how an ultrasound can detect an STD. There is a syndrome called Fitz-Hugh-Curtis which is associated with the spread of gonorrhea or chlamydia and causes a hepatitis (liver inflammation) portrait and multiple fibrous adhesions (internal scars) in the same area as the gallbladder/liver and can be seen on ultrasound. This is one example. Another example would be if the ultrasound detected an inflammatory condition in the fallopian tube called salpingitis - this could be the sign of an STD as well. Also, if your relative had a vaginal ultrasound, it is possible that the technician noticed some discharge and may suspect an STD. As far as a UTI goes, unless the ultrasound detected a condition called pyelonephritis (inflammation of the ureter or tube going from the kidney to the bladder which could shed bacteria and cause a bladder infection/UTI portrait) - I cannot see any other way that a simple ultrasound could detect a UTI. The point is - YES - an ultrasound can possibly detect the effects of certain STDs/bladder infections on the internal anatomy of the abdomen.

No! The Ultrasound can only detect stones. However once they have ruled out stones, then they can rule in other things.

Ultrasounds cannot detect a uti or std. I think along with the ultrasound the doctor may have orders other test like a urinanalysis and cultures in order to come up with those diagnoses.

NO! It cannot. Those are laboratory blood tests. An STD can be passed along through sexual contact, but a urinary tract infection cannot. Both need different antibiotics to cure them. See a physician immediately.

no u need a blood test because thats the only way to check
