Ultrasound and CT scan- What if neither show the gallbladder as the cause of my symptoms? |
I have been having a dull aching pain in my upper right quadrant of my abdomen that comes and goes, as well as nausea that comes and goes. I have not noticed an association with food however I have a strong family history of gallbladder problems. I had an ultrasound and they found no gallstones, so today I took a CT scan (still waiting for the results)....if both of these come back normal....could it still be my gallbladder? What else can they do to check for it? I really think it is my gallbladder. I have already had my appendix out and I am not pregnant. you may need a HIDA scan it is specific for gallbladder. they inject you with a synthetic form of what your body normally produces after you eat. then they watch how they gallbladder and ducts react. they measure the time it takes for the gallbladder to react and then they can see if there are any blockages or problems. it takes about an hour or more for the test. Different diagnose of gallbladder : gastroduodenum ulcer, pancreatitis, hepatic abcess, sometimes appedicitis and renal stone could result very similiar symptoms. If the ultrasound and CT scan show your gallbladder is normal sized and clear it's not your gallbladder. |
