What can help with fatigue caused by ulcerative colitis?

Hi, does anyone know of a way that I can stop feeling so tired and lethargic all the time? I have ulcerative colitis, but even when I am in remission, I feel really tired and lost all my energy. I have tried high caffeine, ginseng... a good diet, multivitamins and exercise. But nothing seems to work. It does nothing at all for me. Does anyone know a herb or something that WILL work for me? I have heard about Rhodiola, but I am doubting that this will work for me as nothing does.

Thank you.

A deficiency in vitamin B12 will produce symptoms such as fatigue and exhaustion, chest pains and heart palpitations, dizzy spells, fainting and loss of balance, excessive sweating, excessive urination and dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, headaches and migraines, depression, tingling and prickling and numbing sensations in the outer extremities, insomnia and constipation, irritability and moodiness and an inability to think clearly ....Quite scary actually if you don't realise the vitamin factor.

Eat more foods rich in this vitamin ie: organ meats such as lambs fry and kidneys, skimmed milks and cheeses, fish and eggs.

Without sufficient vitamin B12 in your body any iron you ingest will never be assimilated properly, so increase your intake of iron also as well if you aren't already eating enough iron rich foods.

The RDI/RDA, according to the National Research Council, is 10 - 15mg per day for adults ...... are you getting that much?? If not, that's probably where your fatigue stems from.

ie ~ pork, red meat, clams, dried peaches, egg yolks, oysters, nuts, beans, asparagus, blackstrap molasses and oatmeal.

Vitamin C rich foods eaten in conjunction with iron rich foods will increase the absorption rate of the iron.

ie ~ citrus fruits such as lemons, limes and oranges (or juices), leafy and green vegies, tomatoes and potatoes, red and green peppers.

If you are lactose intolerant or vegetarian then it is really important that you supplement your diet with a multi B complex tablet on a daily basis and focus on eating foods rich in iron as mentioned above.

Things that could be robbing you of your precious B complex of vitamins are :- eating too much protein, alcohol, eating too much tinned food, antiobiotics, antidepressants, diuretics, laxatives, penicillin, prednisone and aspirin, otc cold and flu medicines.

Also, try to cut back on drinks such as caffeine, tea, sodas and soft drinks as they are all B complex thieves........ as well as being great at dehydrating you.......... alcohol is also a big B complex and vitamin C thief.

Take a multi B complex tablet including all the B's ie: B1, B2 B3, B5, B6 and B12 as they work best synergistically (together). To help with effective absorption of your vitamins simply buy some organic apple cider vinegar and mix 1 - 2 tablespoons full into a glass of warm water and sip through a straw (to protect the enamel on your teeth) after you have swallowed the vitamins. organic apple cider vinegar will increase the production of hydrochloric acid in your tummy and thus ensure the effective digestion of your vitamins鈾?br>
The B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy neural, digestive and immune system functioning.

The B complex of vitamins is a water soluble complex and as such our bodies can neither store or produce them. Therefore we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer the consequences as you unfortunately are.........

A good way to check if you are anaemic is to pull down the lower lid of your eyelids and check the coloring of the skin there. if it is pink or reddish then you are healthy, if it is pasty and pale then you are more than likely anaemic.

if you are drinking caffeinated beverages within an hour of eating your meals then you are more than likely inhibiting your iron absorption.

When you take your daily B complex supplement ensure that you take it with some type of calcium rich food ie: low fat cheese or milk or a calcium supplement containing vitamin D3 as they all work in conjunction with each other.... ........ sorry it's a bit long winded but you need to know all this.

When our bodies are placed under added stress such as sickness, relationship dramas, new job, school studies, boring jobs or just daily life really, the B complex of vitamins are usually the first group to get used up and we therefore need to adjust our intake accordingly.

When you are getting any stress related symptoms or any of the above mentioned symptoms simply take another B tablet. As they are water soluble our bodies will simply excrete any excess in our urine.

Drink loads of fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

I sincerely wish you the best of health & vitality buddy鈾?br>

CHEERS Report It

Do a little reading about Spirulina and/or Chlorella...both 'Algae's' and extremely high in vitamins/minerals etc. I make up a protein 'veggie' powder used as a daily vitamin etc..but health food stores carry various brands. Just don't be sucked in by ones with TOO many ingredients. Another option are in tablet form...again, found at health food stores.

Another thought is to consider that you may have too much Yeast/Candida in your system. Yeast is the bad bacteria we all have, but which tends to grow with health issues, stress, certain meds and certain foods. MANY health issues are related..but fatigue is one...so with your current situation it would be a benefit all the way around to take something for it. Acidophilus, Olive leaf (herb), Kefir (yogurt type drink) in health food stores...all help with getting rid of the bad while encouraging the good bacteria.

Bottom line regular vitamins do not absorb properly even in the healthiest of individuals...so I'm guessing you may be depleted, unknowingly.

All of these take a bit of time...but you should notice a difference within a week or 2 to start.

Hi I have suffered with colitis for 2 years now and was diagnosed at 35 years old i have 2 kids 3 and 5 and yes i am tired a lot. I find I have to push my self out the door to go running and get to the gym but it does make me feel better and especially your diet you really need to eat healthy and small meals not lge ones, 6 small meals, lots of fresh foods stay away from processed foods and alcohol I love red wine , but it dosent love me and makes me nauseous the next day. I also suffer with interstitial cystitis, which is another auto-immune disease which can be quite debilitating ,but luckily it isnt bad, but again there is nothing that can be done for it, so I have 2 diseases to put up with but I stay positive and don't think tired, I think sometimes we can make ourselves tired by just thinking tired, so when you are feeling tired put on those runners and go for a walk , push yourself out of your tiredness, you will feel better for it after, no amount of vitamins etc is really going to work its in the mind to think positive and thats how I cope and love life and enjoy life , I dont dwell on my future , hopefully they dont get worse, if they do well then I will deal with it , if, and when it happens. In the mean time stay bright and happy and try my tips , remember its up to you to make yourself feel better and think happy and positive, as their is far worse off than us in this world.
Cheers happy walking, Nikki
