Do you think I have Type I or II Diabetes? |
The Dr. I went to today stated that I have diabetes but told me that she could not tell if it was type I or Type II. Fasting sugar was 212 Age has NOTHING to do with the type of diabetes you have. The only way to know for certain is a GAD antibody test or C-peptide test. I was diagnosed type one at age 31 and am not overweight and never have been. Type two diabetes is caused by your blood cells inability to convert sugar into energy. A type two's pancreas works just fine, they just can't convert sugar properly. Type one's do not produce insulin and the pancreas is non funcitoning. Type two's many times produce a lot of insulin, it just can't be used by the body without the help of oral medication. Type two's may eventually need insulin to help control their diabetes, but they remain type 2. Type ones are started on insulin from the day of diagnosis. Depends on your age. If you are an adult it is probable type 2. I take metformin once a day but I am insulin resitance and my blood sugar drops plus I am reactive hypoglyciema. See if the metformin works. It was a shock to me. What was your fasting blood sugar reading or is that the ones you mentioned. Mine was 350 fasting when I was diagnosed with Type II . It scared me but I am following the rules and my HbA1c has been 5.2 or less for three years. if your peeing alot and thirsty and losing your vision nd can't sleep and losing weight ur type 1 if you gain weight with the other symptoms ur type 2, but maybe your blood glucose was just high at the time. you know wrong place wrong time. hope that helps Ok, first of all, Type 1 diabetes is "JUVENILE Diabetes meaning if you're over your 20's, it's most likely Type 2. I've had type 1 since I was 7 (I'm 13 now) and when I was diagnosed, I had high blood sugar, drank tonnes of water and had to go to the toilet all the time. Type 2 is often caused by being overweight or due to old age, etc. sounds like type 2 diabetes...usually type 1 diabetics have low BS...your immune system shuts down when BS is above 200.....you need to have a fasting BS test...high BS is as dangerous as low BS you can seizure and go into coma when it is high like that..drink lots of water..dont eat high carbs or junk....unusual to have no symptoms though...usually very thirsty..blurred vision...headache...pee alot...when it gets high like that you can become very dehydrated....hope this helps umm There is no way any of us can know that. I won't even make a guess. |
