Type II Diabetes & Kidney failure? |
How can I find the right food regiman to coincide with medications? Are you saying you are suffering with kidney failure and have type 2 diabetes? If you are not yet on dialysis, lowering your protein intake can help prolong the life of the kidneys and help forestall dialysis. if you are on dialysis, then it may be necessary to increase protein intake, due to the loss of some protein through the filtration process of dialysis. Additionally, you'll probably want to limit intake of phosphorous and potassium, as these levels tend to rise in the renal patient. But, if you are on dialysis, the dialysis center should have a renal dietitian on staff whom you can talk to and who can help formulate a meal plan for you based on your conditions and medications. If you are not yet at that point, then ask your doctor for a referral to a dietitian with specialty in diabetes and renal failure. It's hard to go wrong with a primarily vegetarian diet. With some whole grains, chicken or fish, and a few supplements, you should do quite well. Check out http://www.drmcdougall.com for more on how diet can heal all sorts of things. meet with a Registered Dietitian. they are very knowledgable about what foods work with certain meds. it's part of their schooling to know this stuff. your DR. should be able to refer you to one. There are dietitians that specialize in diabetes. Find one through your doctor or local hospital. I realize that conventional health care is necessary and appropriate. That having been said, there are also many things WE can do to overcome type II diabetes, and improve life as a Type I diabetic.
