My husband has type II diabetes and his eye sight seems to change daily - from bad to worse...? |
He was only recently diagnosed, so he's only in the initial stage of getting his blood sugar steadied with diet, exercise, and of course, insullin injections. His numbers have gone from over 700 when diagnosed to steadily under 200, so we feel we're making progress. His eye sight has gone very bad, seemingly overnight, and it sometimes is worse than other times. Is this temporary? Should we be seeing a doctor for his eyes as well? We would never make money the deciding factor on whether we get medical attention, but the reality is, if there's nothing an eye doctor can do that we're not doing already with the diabetes regiment and lifestyle changes, than we can't afford to spend the money. Please give me any positive advise, and if it's not positive, please be gentle (ha ha), but again, we're new to all of this and it's quite a lot to understand. Thanks. positive advice...u r ahead of the game, you have your dx, and keeping well under control at under 200. Diabeties affects the small blood vessles throughout body. Unfortunately eyes are included. Get free booklets in drs offices. many limbs have been cut off due to poor circulation, as the tissue will rot...dunno if client was compliant or not. Compliance is good, ignore well meaning ppl who give u the wrong foods, they are trying to help, but make things worse. High Blood pressure goes hand in hand with diabetes. Go to health dept or free clinic for more education if u wish. Prob multiple websites, I'd recommend Johns Hopkins one, there u can pick out specific questions. You are probally right about the eye sight, but if you want to cover all the bases, and know exactly where you stand...go. Knowledge is power. prob bc it isnt well controlled- Hold on there. It's not retinopathy and he's not going blind (well, not yet anyway). Have him go to have a diabetic eye check the eye doctor will tell you what is going on with his eyes.keep the blood sugar down. your husband needs to see an eye specialist immediately. it is good that blood sugar is undercontrol. diet restriction and treatment of diabetes must go on. If blood sugar remains around 200mg% no further complacations like kidney and heart damage shall take place. |
