True that type II diabetes sufferes can get off medication thru exercise and nutrition but Type I can not?

This guy who is type 1 says that it irritates him to see type 2s that do not eat properly or exercise because they can actually rid themselves of the meds and he cant?
any info about this?

Absolutely true. I've been off my medication before with diet and exercise. It's getting to be more difficult as time goes on, though. (I'm a type 2)

ya, type 1 peopl cant produce any insulin from the pancreas, type 2 peopl can, just a little though

Very true. Type 1 need insulin to live, because like the first post pointed out, their pancreas doesn't make it. Sometimes their panaceas' will kick in and make a little bit, but, it's not enough to survive. Type 2 occasionally need insulin, but, the majority can survive with pills, or dietary changes and exercise

Yeah, type 2 diabetes comes from a slovenly lifestyle.

He depends on insulin which his body is not producing at all. That's why he most likely has to inject insulin in there body. Yes it is sad to see people abuse there body when it is so delicate, but that's just the way people are. Only they can change who they are. Tell your Friend to not concentrate on the negative but the positive.

Diabetes type ll 's can be late onset type, which is the pancreas getting old and tired from genetic origin .Other type ll diabetics may be that way because of obesity, yes these people can through diet excerise and weight loss reduce their depenancy on medication .Remember medication are drugs with beneifical effects, but also unwanted side effects.

Very true

yes this is true, but I have a teenager in my diabetes support group that is taking less insulin due to some type of diet that his doctor has him on, it is not just exercise that gets type ll off of insulin it is weight loss and nutrition.

Partly true. Truth is a diabetic is a diabetic. A Type II can do without meds if able to control with diet and exercise alone. They will have to be vigilent about keeping their sugar levels down and test strip regularly.

yes, type II diabetes is adult onset diabetes that occurs after years of abuse on our body (all the sugar, no exercise etc) while with type I you're usually born with the problem wherein insulin needs to be injected into their system because the pancreas is unable to make enough for their bodied needs.

Yes it is true but tell the guy to face life as it comes,
rather than comparing himself with type 2s.
It is not easy either for type 2s. They have to control
much on their diet and exercise a lot and keep maintaining
the same. If they dont keep it maintained, problem increases!
Tell him to concentrate on his situation and do what is best
for him. There are a lot more people on this planet
suffering from more chronic diseases, to name one,
cancer. A word of information might change his opinion.
Good luck to you and to your friend.

I'm guessing he's passing on his frustration from people telling him he could get rid of his diabetes if he really wanted to. I've had this crappy frustrating comment myself (type 1 for 30 years). There are many more type 2 diabetics so most people haven't really heard about type 1 and assume they're the same.

It doesn't mean that all, or even most type 2 can cure themselves by exercise and diet (wouldn't that be nice and easy). It's dependant on your genes, age, stress levels hormones as well as your weight and activity level

Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disorder... my immune system didn't like the look of my insulin producing islet cells and, at age 4, it terminated them with extreme prejudice!

In type 2 diabetes, insulin is still produced (sometimes less than usual) but the body is not recognising it properly and cannot use it.

In both cases insulin allows sugar in the bloodstream to be absorbed by cells in your body... muscle cells, brain cells and the rest (c;

Yes it is true. By the way, I am type II and I am doing everything I can to get off medication. I think that if I lose another 10 - 15 pounds I can do it.

Hi,
Actually, the answer to that is somewhat complicated. Although both are called "diabetes," type 1 and type 2 diabetes are caused by drastically different means.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that is caused when the cells that produce insulin die. This means that type 1 diabetics do not produce any insulin at all, and the only treatment is insulin injection therapy. Diet and exercise can help, but cannot cure or replace insulin.

Type 2, on the other hand, is when the body is not able to use or recognize its own insulin. This means they still produce insulin, but still need some outside help. Because type 2 diabetes is most strongly linked to obesity, it is possible to prevent type 2, or at least be controlled through improved diet, exercise, and weight loss.

So, even though there is no cure for diabetes, it is true that type 2 diabetes in its early stages can be controlled through diet and exercise; reducing the need for medication in patients that are sufficiently dedicated to a healthy regime.

I really enjoyed reading the responses you have received on this question, and I agree with the facts that I knew, and I have learned a lot myself.

I think the thing that is missing in the dialogue is that there are a lot of industries in our culture who are out there to make a fast buck, and are not too concerned about the impact of the product they market.

When one responder mentioned a slovenly lifestyle resulting in Type 2 diabetes, that person was only partially correct. Sometimes it takes a lot of understanding, research, mentoring, and proactive planning to avoid the traps that have been set for our last three generations as a result of the constant invitation to "biggie size", "have it your way", and spend more time "lovin' it."

Biggie sizing a drink moves the number of teaspoons in the soda from roughly 20 to almost 30. TEASPOONS! And then there is the almost inevitable refill.

Does anyone remember where I learned that the marketing head in the Burger King chain is actually an athlete with a penchant for taking good care of himself, while making money by marketing junk to those who are not healthy?

Even the latest fast food fad fades under the light of healthy eating habits. (Eat Fresh) is not all it is cracked up to be. Yes it may be better than the other options, but there is almost no fiber in the store at all. And lots of sodium and high sugar level drinks.

I know I've spent a lot of your space on a wild tangent, but I hope it is worth thinking about.
