What tests do doctors do to figure out if you have Type I or Type II Diabetes? |
I tried asking this last week and people were just saying what the difference between the two are. I know that already. Type I - the body isn't making insulin. Type II the body isn't making enough insulin or the body is resistant and not using it properly. The reason I am asking is I have been diagnosed with type II diabetes but I have had problems with my sugar since I was a kid. They never gave me a glucose tolerance test. They only checked my fasting sugar and did the A1c test which tests if your sugar has been high over the last 3 months. I want to know if there are any tests I should request to make sure that everything is right. They can do a c peptide test to distinguish between type 1 and 2. Blood tests i think. They do a glucose tolerance test, where you don't eat anything for a certain amount of time, I think it was 12 hrs, and they take your blood, then they give you a gross sweet orange soda to drink, then they take your blood, like every hour for four or five hours, to see how you process the drink. there is blood tests they do and that is all it takes. you dont' need to test this and that. it also can take tests and see for 3 mos back how high your sugar level was. also if you are one you get shots and the other one can be done with pills. ummm type 1 diabetes is genetic lmao.. I think you answered your own question: People with type II diabetes have high levels of insulin and high blood sugar; people with Type I diabetes have little or no insulin and high blood sugar. You can determine the type by tracking both insulin and glucose levels following ingestion of glucose. This is a very good question. Well, does it really matter now??? There are certain blood tests that they do. I don't know the name of the test, but I do know there is one. You should just ask you doctor. They like to answer your questions |
