Can a mother with Type II diabetes give their child Type I diabetes and vice versa? |
Can a mother with Type II diabetes give their child Type I diabetes and vice versa? No. That's not how it works. Type one and type two are completely different diseases with the same results... high blood sugar. Type one is an autoimmune disorder where the body attacks the insulin producing part of the pancreas. Type two is a defect in the cell walls caused by a molecular malfunction that interferes with the normal insulin action which allows the absorption of glucose. Both have the same result, but are brought on by two entirely different causes. There is no genetic relationship between the two diseases whatsoever. And no, type two is definitely not an autoimmune disease as some here would have you believe. But don't take my word for it, type in 'autoimmune' and 'diabetes' in Google and see how many instances of type two come up from reputable sources. Please don't let your imagination run too wild. The answer is No. If you have Diabetes then you have it if you don't, others can't give you the ailment and only the possibility of Heritage comes to question, not the Answer. |
