How long does controlled type II diabetes shorten your life span.?

I am looking for an average because I am trying to figure something out for a family member.

She controls her diabetes pretty good but not perfect. I guess about what an average person who follows the doctors orders controls their diabetes.

It doesn't have to shorten a life at all!
It also doesn't have to be monitored 24/7.
What does have to happen is
You have to see your doctor when he advises
You have to take your prescriptions if he gives them
You have to do the insulin if he prescribes it.

There are a few other things, you need to have your eyes checked once a year. Diabetes can cause eye problems that could lead to
blindness if not treated.
The same as for everyone, diet and exercise can have a beneficial effect on your lifespan.

That is hard to say. It depends on the person, if its controlled, family history of diabetes, family history of other diseases, etc. etc. Your best bet is to go to a doctor who can 'add' up all the variables.

there's no way of knowing, you can have it for a long time or it can take you out when it pleases. there are different forms of diabetes, the more serious it gets the shorter, mine is brittle diabetes. i have an insulin pump and use the best insulin they have after this there's nothing else. so if this gets to where it doesn't work i don't know the next step. i have had it for 20 years. the longer you have it it usually gets worse. i always looked at it like it's cancer still takes you out just slower.

type 2 does not shorter your life spam if you learn to control it and keep you weight at a appropriate weight. to keep your self active and eating healthy foods will do the trick. and it wont, because you can live the same as a normal person.
