First, see your doctor and get a referral to a diabetes counselor and nutritionist. Second, reduce your carbohydrate intake and exercise more. Your nutritionist and doctor will work with you to set up meal plans and recommend lifestyle changes.

My best advice to you is to eat more vegetables (not potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, corn or beans - all starchy) and avoid using flour in your cooking. For instance, instead of cooking fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy prepare sauteed chicken with vegetables. It's hard to give up the breads, gravies and pastas but you'll be much happier in the long run.

Since I have been diabetic I have been careful to pick my indulgences. If I want a little bit of ice cream after dinner then I exclude one of my servings of carbohydrate. Using your measuring cups and spoons to be sure that you're calculating your servings correctly and read nutritional labels carefully as you'd be surprised how many carbohydrates are contained in things like no bean chilli or spaghetti sauce.

Since you've just been diagnosed, you're probably under a lot of stress and may even be a little depressed. Don't hesitate to ask for help with this from your doctor and look for a local support group for diabetics. Good luck and welcome to the club.

Your best bet is three low carb meals a day with a high protein snack mid morning, mid afternoon and before bed to help keep your blood sugar level. Get regular exercise.

You need to talk with your physician about the disease, and how severe it is in your particular case. If you are insulin dependent, ie - you need insulin injections, then that will be part of controlling the disease.

Controlling your blood sugar is going to be very important and it falls under the category of diet, diet, diet. By diet, I don't mean the weight loss kind. You will need to adjust your diet to accommodate your needs as a diabetic.

Exercise is also important to your overall health. You need to easy in with something simple to start with, such as, walking.

This book is probably a good place to start:
American Diabetes Association Complete Guide to Diabetes by American Diabetes Association
Buy new: $7.99 Used & new from $4.89

type 2 diabetes is controlled by your diet and exercise! watch what you eat and exercise a lot.check your blood sugars regularly.u dont want to be put on insilin.it really stinks!try to keep your blood sugars under 200!
and best of luck to you!!!!!!! =D
hope i helped!!!

The best tool you can use to help you with your diabetes is ....educating yourself.
People on forums such as this can only give you generalized ideas. They cannot prescribe diets for you.
If you are not seeing an endocrinologist now, please do so.Get to a diabetes ed class, a nutritionist and a local or on line support group.
Read everything you can that was published within the past five years.
Welcome to diabetes. You will do well.

I agree with everyone else, you need education. Your best bet is a diabetes education class. Don't rely on your doctor, he/she doesn't have time to tell you all you need to know. Those classes opened my eyes to alot about my diet that I had no idea about before. You must at any cost take those classes.
