My 10 yr old son was recently diagnosed with lupus and diabetes type II...?

Where can i find a good sourse of meal planning ideas for him? on the net.

Make sure your son has a great health care team working with him.
He should be seeing a pediatric endocrinologist along with a dietitian.
They will help you work out the best diet plan for him.Everyone is different . No one diet works for all.
Try to find a support group for each of you and subscribe to diabetes magazines.

Check out the ADA web site and get info on the nearest diabetes camp to your home. They have great summer programs for kids and often have special weekend programs for families or just kids.

Good luck. You have a lot to take in.Try not to worry so much.
I wish you the best.

google diabetic meal plans. i wouldnt think what u eat would really affect the lupus....it doesnt for me..but everyones different...

i know this is off topic...but if your son is on steroids because of the lupus then it really ef's up your blood sugar

I am so sorry to hear that your son is going through this. I have an auto-immune disorder, myself, although it is not as life-threatening. More of an inconvenience compared to Lupus.

I wanted to recommend a cookbook to you, since I know it has a ton of ideas for meal planning and many recipes that are suitable for diabetics. I was put on a sweetener-free, yeast-free, gluten-free, four-day-rotation diet by my doctor when I had an overgrowth of yeast in my system. Following the diet made me feel like I was starving the first week, but things got better the second week. I never felt better in my life than on that particular diet. It is very strict, but if your son is going through a lot and his body needs a chance to heal itself, I think it is your best bet. So, I'll hook you up with a link to the cookbook and I hope you find it worth your time. You do have to cook everything fresh, but the good news is pretty much everything can be made in quantity and frozen. But I honestly felt wonderful on it, which is why I'm recommending it. Otherwise, I would just stick with "ordinary, run-of-the-mill" diets like those below. Whichever you decide to follow, I hope your son feels better soon and hopefully you can get both problems under control.

Take care. S.

I am borderline diabetic and here's an article that outlines foods that are healthy to eat. You don't really need to obsess about a menu. You just need to focus on feeding him breads that are grain-based (brown) and focus on giving him lean meats and substituting fruits for sweets. Every once in a while when his blood-sugar is stable, he can have things that are normally not on his menu. The link for the article is below.

Avoid sugar. Eat lean meat, vegetables, & whole grain carbs.

Hi Solstice,

It could be possible that your son got lupus first then acquired the diabetes type 2 after taking steroids (common side effects of steroids). Majority of our patients have the same reaction to steroids.

For your meal planning try www.dlife.com , www.dinewise.com. They have great recipes online!

I, know this may not be part of your question but, I suggest as a supplement, you also give your son high doses of natural polysaccharides that can greatly help his lupus condition. This will also help correct his type 2 diabetes. Lupus is an auto-immune disease therefore we need to reinforce the immune system itself - and one way is by nutritional intervention using glyconutritional method (high polysaccharide source). We get great results and reports from our patients taking glyconutrients from alternative sources such as the goji berry (in juice form). The doctor can remove the steroids later depending on lab results. The good thing is that there are no side effects in taking this natural drink! The juice is available at www.racespiloy.freelife.com . Usually our patients get good results taking 90ml to 120ml three times a day until results indicate the patient is getting better; they lower the dose to 60-90ml 3x a day still basing on lab results. The desired result usually ranges from 6 to 12 months, though differs variably from patient to patient. Now there is hope after lupus...

Hope this info could help you son.

Edwin
